CHAPTER 1 – The Letter Nobody Wanted Her to Read

The conference room fell completely silent the moment Eleanor Ashford stepped through the enormous oak doors.
She was seventy-eight years old.
Her silver hair was perfectly arranged, but the wrinkles on her face told the story of decades filled with sacrifice, heartbreak, and secrets no one else in the room knew.
Across the table sat her three children.
Daniel.
Victoria.
Charles.
Each of them wore expensive designer suits and expressions that barely hid their impatience.
Not one of them stood to greet their mother.
Instead, Daniel glanced at his watch.
"Finally," he sighed. "Can we finish this? Our lawyers have other meetings."
Eleanor smiled sadly.
The smile hurt more than tears.
She remembered when these same children used to race into her arms after school.
Now they looked at her as if she were an obstacle standing between them and millions of dollars.
The family attorney slowly placed an envelope on the polished wooden table.
"It is time."
Every eye fixed on the envelope.
Inside was the final amendment to the Ashford family trust.
The document their late husband and father had personally rewritten just days before his mysterious death.
Victoria leaned forward.
"I'm sure Father left everything equally."
Charles smirked.
"Unless someone manipulated him."
His eyes briefly landed on Eleanor.
The accusation was obvious.
For months they had whispered behind her back.
They claimed she had married their father only for his fortune.
They claimed she had pressured him into changing his will.
They claimed she was hiding something.
Eleanor never defended herself.
Because sometimes silence protects people you still love.
The lawyer carefully handed her the envelope.
"You are the only person authorized to open this."
Daniel slammed his hand onto the table.
"This is ridiculous!"
"My father built this empire—not her!"
Victoria added coldly,
"If you're planning another performance, save it."
Eleanor looked at each of them.
She saw greed.
Fear.
Suspicion.
Not one trace of love.
Her fingers trembled as she slowly broke the wax seal.
Inside wasn't only a legal document.
There was another folded letter.
A handwritten note.
Addressed only to her.
As she unfolded it...
The color disappeared from her face.
Her breathing stopped.
Her hands began shaking uncontrollably.
Everyone assumed she had just discovered who inherited the billions.
But they were wrong.
Because the first sentence wasn't about money.
It read:
"If you're reading this... it means someone in this room murdered me."
May you like
The room froze.
And Eleanor suddenly realized the nightmare she'd spent twenty-five years trying to bury had finally returned.
