CHAPTER 8 – The Truth Richard Planned From the Beginning

Rain poured across the rooftop.

Helicopters circled overhead.

Edward stood at the edge of the skyscraper, surrounded by police.

Below him...

Hundreds of reporters had already gathered.

There was nowhere left to run.

Daniel climbed onto the rooftop.

"Why?"

Edward laughed bitterly.

"You still don't understand?"

"I spent my whole life living in Richard's shadow."

"He inherited the company."

"He inherited the respect."

"He inherited the woman I loved."

He pointed at Eleanor.

"I wanted everything that belonged to him."

"So I took it."

"The company."

"The children."

"And even his son."

Victoria burst into tears.

"You destroyed our family because you were jealous?"

Edward smiled.

"No."

"I destroyed it because I believed I deserved it."

At that moment, the detective received a message from forensic investigators.

He looked at Eleanor in disbelief.

"We've just opened Richard Ashford's private safe."

Inside was one final envelope.

Richard had written it only hours before his death.

The detective read the final lines aloud.

"If Edward is hearing these words, then my plan worked."

Everyone looked stunned.

Richard had known he was dying.

He had secretly installed cameras.

Created Vault Seven.

Recorded every conversation.

Hidden DNA records proving Benjamin's identity.

And most shocking of all...

He deliberately left only part of the evidence where Edward could find it.

He knew Edward's greed would eventually expose him.

Richard had spent his final days building a trap that could survive decades.

Edward's face turned pale.

"No..."

"No!"

He realized he had never been winning.

Every move he had made for twenty-five years...

Had been exactly what Richard expected.

As police closed in, Edward looked once at the family he had destroyed.

Then he stepped backward.

The rooftop edge disappeared beneath his feet.

He vanished into the darkness below.

Months later...

Benjamin recovered from his injuries.

Learning the truth wasn't easy.

Twenty-five years of lies could not disappear overnight.

But every Sunday, he visited the Ashford estate.

Not as the heir to billions.

Not as the victim of a kidnapping.

Simply as a son coming home.

One afternoon, Daniel found the old blue baby shoe displayed in a glass case inside the mansion.

Below it was a small silver plaque.

It read:

"Money can build an empire. Lies can destroy a family. But the truth... always finds its way home."

And for the first time in twenty-five years...

The Ashford family sat around the same dinner table.

May you like

Not because of an inheritance.

But becauselove had finally defeated the secret that nearly destroyed them all.
