CHAPTER 2 – The Secret Hidden for Twenty-Five Years

No one spoke.

Not even the lawyers.

The ticking of the antique grandfather clock echoed through the room like a countdown.

Daniel slowly stood.

"What does it say?"

Eleanor didn't answer.

Instead, she continued reading.

Every line made her hands shake harder.

Her husband had predicted everything.

He knew someone would try to silence him.

He knew his own children had begun fighting over the company years before his death.

Most terrifying of all...

He knew exactly who had betrayed him.

Victoria stepped forward and tried grabbing the letter.

Eleanor pulled it away.

"You don't deserve to read this."

Charles laughed nervously.

"Oh, come on."

"Mother's just trying to scare us."

But Eleanor suddenly looked directly into his eyes.

"The night your father died..."

"...he wasn't alone."

Charles's smile disappeared.

Daniel frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Eleanor slowly reached into her handbag.

From a hidden compartment she removed a small velvet box.

Inside was an old silver key.

The exact key her husband had told her never to reveal unless he died unexpectedly.

The lawyer gasped.

"I've seen that key before."

Eleanor nodded.

"It opens Vault Seven."

No one had heard those words in decades.

Vault Seven wasn't listed in any corporate records.

Not in any bank.

Not in any government archive.

According to family legend...

It didn't even exist.

Charles suddenly became pale.

Victoria quietly took one step backward.

Daniel noticed.

"Why are you scared?"

She couldn't answer.

Because she remembered something their father had once whispered after a terrible argument years earlier.

"If anything happens to me... the vault tells the truth."

Eleanor stood up.

Her voice became stronger than anyone had heard in years.

"You spent months fighting over an inheritance."

"But your father left something far more valuable."

"The truth."

She turned toward the attorney.

"Call the police."

Daniel looked horrified.

"What are you doing?"

Without taking her eyes off her children, Eleanor quietly replied,

"I'm giving your father the justice he waited twenty-five years for."

Just then...

One of the family bodyguards burst into the room, completely out of breath.

"Mrs. Ashford!"

"Someone broke into Vault Seven..."

"...less than ten minutes ago."

Eleanor closed her eyes.

She was too late.

Or so everyone believed.

May you like

Because what none of them knew...

...was that she had secretly removed the most important evidence from that vault three days earlier
