Chapter 2 - The Secret Beneath the Velvet Box

Viral Headline: THE BRIDE’S SICK TWIST EXPOSED: THE DEEPEST FAMILY SECRET FINALLY BLEEDS OUT!The silence in the grand corridor was suffocating. Vivienne’s groom, Julian Vance, stepped out from the groom's quarters, his expression a mix of horror and confusion. He looked at the video still playing on Nikolai’s tablet, then at his trembling fiancé.
“Vivienne... what did you do?” Julian asked, his voice shaking. “You told me Mara tried to ruin our future. You said she threatened you.”
“She did! She is!” Vivienne cried, tears of genuine panic finally spilling over her heavy makeup. “Julian, you have to believe me! I did it to protect us!”
Mara stepped forward, the initial shock wearing off, replaced by a cold, burning anger. “Protect us from what, Vivienne? From the fact that you’ve been lying to Julian since the day you met him?”
Mara walked over to the silver picture frame she had brought as a gift, which had been tossed carelessly onto a nearby table. She picked it up, tore away the cream paper, and revealed not a photo, but a hidden compartment built into the back of the heavy silver frame.
With a sharp click, Mara pulled out a thick manila envelope.
“I didn't come here to ruin your wedding, Vivienne. I came to give you one last chance to tell the truth,” Mara said, her voice steady and resonant. “But when I walked in, your mother's thugs grabbed me before I could even speak.”
Mara handed the envelope directly to Julian.
Eleanor Bellamy lunged forward to grab it, but Nikolai’s guard blocked her with a heavy arm. “Let the groom read,” Nikolai commanded softly.
Julian tore open the envelope. Inside were medical records, financial statements, and a series of legally binding non-disclosure agreements. As Julian scanned the papers, his eyes widened in sheer disbelief.
“This... this can’t be,” Julian stammered, looking at Vivienne as if she were a stranger. “The Bellamy estate... the shipping empire... it doesn't belong to your father. It belongs entirely to Mara.”
The crowd erupted into chaotic murmurs.
“Six years ago, when my parents died in that tragic fire,” Mara explained, looking directly at the gossiping guests, “my uncle took over the family trust under the pretense of protecting me. They told everyone I was mentally unstable and unfit to inherit. They used my 'instability' as a cover to fund Vivienne’s lavish lifestyle and this very wedding.”
Vivienne had ruined her own dress to create a massive distraction, knowing that Mara had finally acquired the legal documents to expose the fraud today. If Mara was arrested or institutionalized for attacking the bride, her claims about the inheritance would be dismissed as the ramblings of a bitter, unstable lunatic.

Julian dropped the papers, backing away from Vivienne. “Our entire marriage... it was all based on a lie to fund your family’s stolen wealth.”
But as the Bellamy empire crumbled in a matter of minutes, Nikolai Volkov stepped closer to Mara, a dangerous gleam in his eye. “A brilliant exposure, corporate heiress,” he murmured. “But there is still one piece of the puzzle you are missing.”
