CHAPTER 7 — We Thought the Nightmare Was Over… Until Daisy Started Barking at the New Nursery

Almost a year passed.

Life finally felt normal again.

Our daughter was healthy, energetic, and laughing from the moment she woke up each morning. The terrifying months of sleepless nights felt like a distant memory.

We even decided to renovate one of the spare bedrooms into a brand-new nursery for our second baby, who was due in just a few months.

Everything was brand new.

Fresh paint.

New hardwood floors.

A beautiful white crib.

The room smelled clean.

It looked perfect.

But on the very first night after the furniture was delivered, Daisy refused to walk inside.

She stood in the doorway with her ears pinned back, quietly staring into the room.

Then she let out one low, uneasy growl.

The next morning, she began sniffing every corner of the floor.

She circled the crib again and again before suddenly barking at a large decorative rug.

My husband laughed.

"She's probably remembering what happened last time."

I wanted to believe him.

But Daisy's eyes told a different story.

Instead of scratching the walls this time, she kept pawing at the rug.

Over.

And over.

Finally, we rolled it back.

Nothing.

Just clean hardwood flooring.

Still, Daisy wouldn't stop.

Something didn't feel right.

So we lifted one loose floorboard near the corner of the room.

Hidden beneath it was a pocket of standing water.

The plumber arrived that afternoon.

A tiny leak from a newly installed pipe had already begun soaking the subfloor.

"It would've taken months before anyone noticed," he explained.

"Eventually mold would've started growing underneath."

I looked at Daisy and couldn't help smiling through my tears.

She had done it again.

Not because she understood construction.

Not because she knew what mold was.

She simply trusted her nose...

And loved her family enough to keep trying.

From that day forward, we made one promise.

Whenever Daisy insisted something was wrong...

We would always investigate before assuming she was misbehaving.
