Chapter 8 - CorneredFor three agonizing seconds, nobody breathed.

Then Ryan’s face twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated venom. He lunged his hand toward the inside pocket of his suit jacket.
"Don't even think about it, Collins," Noah’s voice cut through the room like a razor-sharp blade.
With blinding speed, Noah drew his sidearm, leveling the barrel squarely at Ryan’s chest. "Hands where I can see them! Interlace your fingers behind your head right now, or I will drop you where you stand."
Ryan froze, his hand hovering inches from his jacket. Slowly, trembling with suppressed rage, he pulled his hands out and raised them above his shoulders.
"You're making a massive mistake, Colonel," Ryan sneered, his voice dripping with venom. "You have no legal jurisdiction here. This is a private residence, and you're trespassing with a disgruntled ex-mistress—"
"Federal Special Operations Command, Warrant #88-B," Noah interrupted smoothly, stepping forward and snapping heavy steel handcuffs around Ryan’s wrists with brutal efficiency. "You are under arrest for federal embezzlement, wire fraud, conspiracy, and interstate infant trafficking."
"Trafficking?" Ryan laughed maniacally as he was shoved hard against the nursery wall. "Prove it! The adoption records are sealed! The medical logs are buried! You have nothing!"
"We have everything, Ryan," I stepped forward, looking my ex-husband straight in the eyes for the very first time without a shred of fear. "We have the bank transfers. We have the hospital security footage. And most importantly... we have Sarah's full confession."
Sarah looked up from the floor, her eyes filled with betrayal and absolute disgust. "It’s over, Ryan. I gave the federal agents your master flash drive from the study downstairs twenty minutes before you walked in."

Color drained entirely from Ryan’s face. The cocky, untouchable defense contractor evaporated, leaving behind a pathetic, cornered criminal realizing his entire empire had just collapsed into ash.
As federal backup units swarmed up the stairs to take Ryan into custody, Noah gently placed his hand on my shoulder, looking down at the two babies now resting side by side in the center of the nursery bed.
