Chapter 7 - Shadows in the HarborWhile the restaurant flourished, the dark undercurrents of Bellhaven’s criminal syndicate were undergoing a violent realignment.

With the Pierce family empire dismantled and their illicit shipping routes seized, a power vacuum opened up along the eastern docks. Out-of-town syndicates—sensing vulnerability in the Ricci organization—began making aggressive moves.

Late one Tuesday evening, deep inside the private container yards at Harbor Crown Logistics, a sleek black sedan pulled up beside Warehouse 4.

Three men stepped out. They were emissaries from the Syndicate of the North, led by a ruthless enforcer named Viktor "The Butcher" Vance. They believed that Matteo’s recent focus on corporate restructuring and his quiet life with Eleanor had made him soft.

They were about to learn how catastrophically wrong they were.

From the shadows of a towering shipping crane, Matteo watched them approach, flanked by his two most trusted commanders, Marcus and David.

"Mr. Ricci," Viktor called out, his voice echoing off the corrugated metal walls. "We’ve come to discuss the redistribution of the eastern docks. You can't hold all these terminals alone anymore. Times are changing."

Matteo stepped into the amber glow of the security floodlights. His face was carved from granite, completely devoid of emotion.

"Times are indeed changing, Viktor," Matteo said, his voice cutting through the damp maritime air. "Which is why men of your profession are becoming extinct."

Viktor sneered, pulling a silenced pistol from his coat. "You think because you married some common woman, you’ve gone soft? You think you can—"

Before Viktor could finish his sentence, the crack of a sniper rifle echoed across the harbor.

A bullet clipped the concrete floor two inches from Viktor’s right boot, shattering the asphalt into dust. Instantly, the red laser dots of twenty sniper scopes danced across the chests of Viktor and his enforcers, shining from the rooftops of every surrounding warehouse.

Marcus and David stepped forward, their hands resting smoothly on the grips of their sidearms.

"Drop the weapon," Matteo said, his voice dropping an octave into a tone of absolute, chilling finality. "Or your next breath will be your last."

Viktor’s pistol slipped from his trembling fingers, clattering loudly against the concrete.

"Who... who is backing you?" Viktor choked out, staring in terror at the invisible army surrounding them. "No one has this kind of network!"

Matteo stepped closer, leaning down until his face was inches from Viktor’s terrified eyes.

"You don't fight an empire because of money, Viktor," Matteo whispered. "You fight it because someone tried to destroy what the king values most. And my wife taught me that true strength isn't about destroying your enemies—it's about making sure they never dare to look in her direction again."
