Chapter 8 - The Anonymous PhilanthropistA month after the harbor confrontation, the front page of the Bellhaven Chronicle featured a massive, glowing headline: MYSTERIOUS BENEFACTOR DONATES $50 MILLION TO CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND WORKER RELIEF FUNDS.

The article detailed how an anonymous trust—managed through Harbor Crown Logistics—had established tuition-free vocational schools, healthcare clinics for service industry workers, and anti-harassment legal defense funds across the entire northeastern region.

Inside the Ricci penthouse, Eleanor sat at the mahogany desk, reading the morning paper while sipping her coffee.

Matteo walked up behind her, wrapping his arms gently around her shoulders and resting his chin against her hair.

"Fifty million?" Matteo murmured playfully against her ear. "You're starting to spend my retirement fund, my love."

Eleanor turned her head, smiling up at him. "Your retirement fund could buy a small country, Matteo. Besides, don't you think it’s poetic? The money that corrupt politicians and arrogant snobs stole from this city is finally being used to lift up the people they used to step on."

Matteo smiled, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. "It’s more than poetic. It’s justice."

"And what about Brandon Pierce?" Eleanor asked, her expression turning slightly curious.

"His trial starts next week," Matteo replied, pouring himself a cup of coffee. "His lawyers tried to claim he was mentally unfit because of stress. The judge took one look at his social media history—including the live stream of the soda incident—and threw the motion out. He’s looking at ten years in a federal penitentiary."

Eleanor nodded slowly, a sense of quiet closure washing over her. She didn't feel hatred for Brandon anymore; she felt only the profound peace of knowing that actions had consequences, and that the world was finally a little bit safer for ordinary people who just wanted to live with dignity.

"Good," she said softly. "Let’s leave the past where it belongs."
