Chapter 2 - The Crimson Room and the Shadowed Nanny

Viral Title: THE BILLIONAIRE ADOPTED HIS 'DESTITUTE' DAUGHTER—But What He Found Under Her Bed Changed Everything! 🚫🕵️‍♂️Hope's integration into the Vance empire was a media sensation. The headlines screamed: The Piano Heiress Returns From the Dead! Arthur showered her with everything money could buy—dresses from Paris, the finest doctors, and a team of private tutors.

Yet, Hope remained strangely quiet. She rarely smiled, and she only ever played that one, haunting melody on the piano.

Julianna, furious that her upcoming marriage—and her grip on the Vance fortune—was being threatened by a child, decided to take matters into her own hands. She hired a private investigator to dig into the girl's past, convinced that "Hope" was a weapon designed to destroy them.

One afternoon, while Arthur was away at a high-stakes board meeting, Julianna sneaked into Hope’s massive bedroom. The room was filled with expensive toys, but Hope had pushed them all into a corner. She slept on the hard hardwood floor instead of the silk-sheeted bed.

Julianna began tearing through the room. She ripped open drawers, searched the closet, and finally, looked under the heavy mahogany bed.

Hidden in the shadows beneath the frame was a small, torn burlap sack. Julianna pulled it out, her heart hammering. Inside was a collection of bizarre items: a piece of charred wood, a vial of clear liquid, and a heavily stained, handwritten diary.

Julianna opened the diary. The handwriting was chaotic, frantic.

“She must remember the melody. The melody is the key to his guilt. When he hears it, he will welcome the viper into his nest. He thinks he burned us. He thinks he won. But the seed of revenge is planted.”

Julianna gasped. Before she could read further, a cold voice spoke from the doorway.

"Looking for something, stepmother?"

Julianna whipped around. Hope was standing there. But she wasn't the trembling, scared little girl from the ballroom. Her posture was straight, her expression chillingly blank. She was holding a heavy silver candle holder in her small hand.

"You little fraud," Julianna hissed, standing up and clutching the diary to her chest. "I knew it! You aren't some innocent victim. Who sent you? Who wrote this?!"

Hope didn't answer. Instead, she took a slow step forward. "Mama said greedy women wear gold because they are hollow inside. You shouldn't take things that don't belong to you."

Suddenly, the heavy oak door warped shut behind Julianna. From the shadows of the hallway emerged a figure—a tall, severe woman dressed in a stark nanny's uniform. It was Evelyn, the woman Arthur had hired just days ago to look after Hope, chosen from hundreds of applicants.

Only, Evelyn wasn't looking at Hope like a nanny. She was looking at the diary in Julianna’s hand with absolute panic.

"Give it to me," Evelyn demanded, her voice low and dangerous.

Julianna backed away toward the balcony. "You're in on this! Both of you! Wait until Arthur hears about—"

Before Julianna could finish, Evelyn lunged. A fierce struggle broke out. Julianna screamed, dropping the diary. She scrambled toward the open balcony doors, but her high heels caught on the rug. With a horrific screech, Julianna pitched backward over the low stone railing of the third-story balcony.

A sickening thud echoed from the courtyard below.

Hope walked calmly to the edge, looking down at Julianna’s motionless, gold-dressed body. Then, she turned to Evelyn. "Is she dead?"

Evelyn picked up the diary, her hands shaking. "It doesn't matter. We have to move the timeline forward. Your father is starting to ask the wrong questions."
