Chapter 3 - The Ghost in the Security Tapes

Viral Title: SHE ACCIDENTALLY FELL FROM THE BALCONY... But the Security Footage Revealed a Third Shadow! 😰📹The death of Julianna was ruled a tragic accident by the police—a slip on a rainy afternoon. Arthur was devastated, not out of deep love for Julianna, but because the darkness of his past seemed to be swallowing his present.
He locked himself in his security command center, drinking heavily. He couldn't shake what Victor had told him about the fake locket.
"Show me the footage again, Victor," Arthur commanded, staring at the wall of monitors displaying the perimeter of the mansion on the day of the fire eight years ago.
"Arthur, we've looked at this a thousand times," Victor sighed, operating the console. "The fire started in the west wing. It was an electrical malfunction. Your wife and daughter were caught in the crossfire. We only found Anna’s remains. Hope was missing, presumed ash."
"No," Arthur growled, pointing at a blurry monitor. "Enhance the northwest gate. Right before the flames broke out."
Victor hesitated, his fingers hovering over the keyboard. He typed a sequence. The image zoomed in. Through the digital static, a figure could be seen sprinting away from the burning wing. The figure was carrying a small bundle—a child. But it wasn't Anna. The figure was taller, broader. A man.
And around the man's wrist was a distinctive, heavy platinum watch.
Arthur’s breath hitched. He looked down at Victor’s wrist. Victor was wearing that exact same rare, custom-made platinum watch.
The silence in the room became suffocating. Arthur slowly reached for the drawer where he kept his licensed firearm. "Victor... why were you carrying my daughter out of a burning house eight years ago while letting me believe she was dead?"
Victor didn't flinch. Instead, a slow, grim smile spread across his face. He didn't look at Arthur; he looked at the security monitor behind him.
"Because, Arthur, you never deserved her," Victor said softly. "And you certainly didn't deserve Anna."
Before Arthur could pull the trigger, the lights in the entire mansion slammed off, plunging them into pitch-black darkness. A secondary alarm began to blare—the mansion’s main vault had been breached.
Arthur fired blindly into the dark, the muzzle flash illuminating an empty chair. Victor was gone.
Spurred by pure adrenaline, Arthur ran through the dark hallways toward Hope’s room, terrified for his daughter's safety. He threw the door open, flashlight beam cutting through the darkness.
