Chapter 15

Ivy took a slow sip of the whiskey, letting the warmth burn pleasantly down her throat. She looked out over the estate grounds, feeling a sense of security and power she had never known in her entire life.

"Thank you," Ivy said softly, the playful banter fading into something much more sincere. "For trusting me today. For not laughing when I walked into that boardroom."

"I never doubted you for a second," Ronan replied, stepping closer until the space between them vanished. The height difference was intimate, the air charged with an undeniable electric current. "From the moment you took a riding crop across your shoulder to protect a frightened child, I knew you possessed a strength this city had forgotten how to look for."

Ivy’s breath caught. She looked up into his deep, unblinking eyes, seeing past the mafia boss, past the cold armor of the city's most feared man, straight to the soul of someone who understood what it meant to fight for survival.

"And what happens now?" Ivy whispered, her heart hammering against her ribs. "Now that the enemies are gone and the house is ours?"
