Chapter 7 - The Final PlayAudio Evidence and Shattered LiesThe courtroom was dead silent as the prosecutor pressed play on the audio system.

The crisp, high-definition recording played through the courtroom speakers, echoing off the high ceilings:

[Sound of glass shattering, followed by a heavy body hitting tile]

Elena's Voice: "All I asked was where your paycheck went this month..."

Dean's Voice: "You seriously questioned me in my own house?"

Linda's Voice: "Look what you’ve done. Clean up this disgusting mess before someone sees it."

Arthur's Voice: "Don’t let that woman get under your skin. You’re the man of this house."

[Sound of a beer can cracking open, followed by Dean’s laugh]

Dean's Voice: "You hear that? Nobody here is taking your side."

Linda pulled her coat tightly around herself, dropping her head onto the defense table as the jury watched her with unbridled disgust. Dean looked like he was going to vomit right there in the dock.

The recording continued, capturing the three distinct clicks of the panic button, followed by Dean’s arrogant chuckles—right up until the front door was shattered by federal agents.

"No further questions, Your Honor," the prosecutor said smoothly, sitting down.

Sterling looked at his clients, then back at the judge, realizing there was no legal maneuver, no high-priced spin, and no lie that could ever undo the words captured on that audio file. He declined to cross-examine me.

Two days later, the jury returned with a verdict in record time: Guilty on all counts.

Dean was sentenced to 28 years in federal prison for money laundering, domestic violence, and conspiracy to commit fraud.

Linda and Arthur were sentenced to 12 years each for criminal conspiracy, insurance fraud, and accessory to aggravated assault.

As they were led away in chains, I stood in the corridor outside the courtroom, watching them take their final steps as free people.

It felt like the end of a long, dark nightmare.

But the night before Dean was transferred to a maximum-security facility, Marcus called me into his office with a grim look on his face.

"Elena," Marcus said, placing a locked laptop on the desk between us. "There’s something you need to see. We finally decrypted the hard drives we took from the basement safe."
