Chapter 4 - The Secrets in the SafeWith Richard temporarily neutralized and locked out of his corporate playground, my next move was dismantling the financial fortress he had secretly built behind my back.

Back at our secondary penthouse apartment downtown—which I had also legally reclaimed—I sat at the mahogany desk reviewing forensic accounting reports alongside our lead investigator, Sarah.
“He was bold, Amanda,” Sarah said, sliding a thick binder across the desk. “Richard didn't just skim a little off the top. For the past three years, he systematically diverted profits from our subsidiary logistics contracts into an offshore shell company registered under an alias: B.M. Holdings.”
“B.M. for Brooke Miller,” I noted coldly, turning the pages of bank statements showing hundreds of thousands of dollars funneled into luxury cars, designer bags, and a hidden townhouse across town.
“Exactly. And it gets worse. He used company assets to purchase that townhouse, falsely categorizing it as a corporate real estate investment for international clients. But neighbors confirm Brooke and her baby have been living there full-time for over a year.”
I stared at the financial records, a bitter smile touching my lips. Richard thought he was a mastermind, playing a double life with absolute impunity. He never imagined that the quiet, compliant wife who stayed home to raise our son was systematically keeping tabs on every single discrepancy.
Just then, my phone rang. It was an incoming video call from an unknown, encrypted number.
I tapped accept. The screen flickered, revealing Richard’s face. He looked disheveled, his expensive tie loosened, standing in a dingy public parking garage.
“Amanda! You have to call off your lawyers!” Richard yelled, his voice cracking with desperation. “They’ve frozen all my personal accounts! I can’t even buy a cup of coffee! My credit cards are declining everywhere!”
“That’s unfortunate, Richard,” I replied evenly, leaning back in my chair. “Turns out when you commit financial fraud using corporate infrastructure, the banks take swift action.”
“Listen to me!” he pleaded, his anger momentarily giving way to panic. “Let’s be reasonable. We can settle this quietly. Drop the lawsuit, give me back my executive position, and we can co-parent. Think of Ethan!”
“Don’t you dare mention my son,” I snapped, the ice in my voice cutting straight through the screen. “You told a four-year-old child he didn’t belong in this family while treating another woman's baby like royalty. You made your choice, Richard. Now enjoy the consequences.”

“You’ll regret this!” he shrieked, his mask of composure shattering completely. “I have leverage you don’t even know about! I’ll destroy everything you care about!”
I hung up the phone without a word. Leverage? Let him try. I had the law, the truth, and an army of the best attorneys money could buy on my side.
