Chapter 8 - THE QUEEN OF BLACKWOOD

Three weeks later.

The snow outside Blackwood Manor was beginning to melt, giving way to the early signs of spring. The grand estate was undergoing massive renovations—carpenters, painters, and security experts worked around the clock to repair the damaged structure.

In the master suite on the top floor—the grandest, warmest room in the entire mansion—the heavy double doors stood open.

Inside, Evelyn sat behind a massive carved desk, dressed in an elegant white silk suit. Spread out before her were the newly consolidated financial ledgers of the entire New England crime syndicate. Victor Vance was in federal custody, Julian’s faction had been dismantled, and the Hart family’s debts had been erased completely.

A soft knock sounded at the open door.

Adrian walked in. He no longer wore the rigid, cold expression of the man who had dragged her through the ice three months ago. His shoulder was healed, though he still walked with a deliberate, lethal grace.

He carried a single velvet box in his hand.

"You're not in your room," Adrian said softly, a subtle trace of warmth in his voice.

"I decided to relocate," Evelyn replied, looking up with a soft smile. "The view from the top floor is much better."

Adrian walked over to the desk, standing beside her. He opened the velvet box, revealing a key—crafted from solid black steel, polished to a brilliant shine.

"What is this?" Evelyn asked, picking up the heavy key.

"It's the master key to Blackwood Manor," Adrian said, looking down at her with unreserved admiration. "Every door, every vault, every secret safe in this estate. It belongs to you."

Evelyn held the key, feeling its weight in her palm. "And the cold room in the north wing?"

"I gave orders to have it sealed," Adrian said, stepping closer, reaching out to wrap his fingers around hers. "No one will ever be banished there again."

"No," Evelyn said firmly, standing up to meet his gaze. "Don't seal it."

Adrian blinked, surprised. "Why?"

"Keep it exactly as it is," Evelyn said, her dark eyes flashing with brilliant, unyielding power. "Leave the broken wallpaper, the iron bed, and the cold draft. Every man who walks into this house to do business with the Blackwood family should be taken to that room first."

Adrian stared at her, a low, genuine laugh breaking from his chest. "To show them where we keep our monsters?"

"No," Evelyn whispered, reaching up to gently lay her hand against his cheek, leaning in until their breath mingled in the warm air of the master suite. "To remind them what happens when you try to freeze out a queen."

May you like

Adrian smiled, pulling her close, burying his face in her hair as he kissed her deeply—a kiss born not of forced duty, but of mutual respect, absolute power, and an unshakeable empire built from the coldest room in Boston.
