CHAPTER 1 — The Boy Who Stopped Time

The crystal chandelier above the Grand Astoria Ballroom glittered like a thousand frozen stars, but no one was looking at it anymore.
Every eye was fixed on the ragged little boy standing in front of Adrian Wolfe.
For eight years, Adrian had been known as the billionaire who had everything—except the ability to walk.
Doctors from Switzerland, Germany, Japan, and the United States had examined him.
Experimental surgeries.
Stem-cell therapy.
Robotic rehabilitation.
Nothing had worked.
Yet one barefoot child had touched his shoe for less than five seconds...
...and his toes had moved.
The room had exploded into stunned silence.
Broken wine spread across the polished marble floor like blood.
Adrian stood trembling.
Not because his legs hurt.
Because he could feel them.
Actually feel them.
His knees shook violently under his own weight.
Muscles that had slept for years screamed awake.
The guests instinctively backed away, giving him space as if witnessing a miracle they weren't worthy to interrupt.
Someone whispered,
"Record everything."
Dozens of phones pointed toward them.
Millions of future views...
None of that mattered.
Adrian stared only at the faded photograph in the boy's tiny hand.
A young Adrian.
A smiling nurse.
One hand resting lovingly on her pregnant stomach.
His breathing stopped.
"No..."
His voice cracked.
"That's impossible."
The boy never smiled.
"My mother kept this."
Adrian grabbed the edge of the table before collapsing.
"Elena..."
The name escaped him like a forgotten prayer.
Twenty-two years earlier...
She had disappeared after a hospital fire.
Authorities found a burned body wearing her name tag.
DNA technology wasn't advanced enough.
The case was closed.
He buried her himself.
He cried over that grave.
He built an entire children's hospital in her memory.
He never loved another woman again.
Yet...
The little boy had just calmly said...
"You buried the wrong woman."
The ballroom suddenly felt too small.
"Tell me..."
Adrian whispered.
"Who are you?"
The boy finally answered.
"My name is Noah."
The name struck Adrian harder than lightning.
Years ago...
Elena once laughed while they painted the nursery.
"If we ever have a son..."
"I want to name him Noah."
Only two people had ever known that.
Only him...
...and Elena.
Adrian's face turned ghost white.
His lips trembled.
"No..."
"No..."
"No..."
The boy reached into another pocket.
This time he removed a tiny silver necklace.
Inside the locket...
A microscopic family picture.
Adrian.
Elena.
And an ultrasound image folded inside.
His knees nearly gave out.
"My God..."
"It's real..."
Before anyone could speak...
The elevator behind them chimed softly.
Every head turned.
The doors slid open.
A woman wearing a gray cleaning uniform slowly stepped into the ballroom, pushing a janitor's cart.
Nobody recognized her.
Nobody...
Except Adrian.
The bucket slipped from her hands.
Water splashed across the marble.
Twenty-two years vanished in one heartbeat.
Their eyes met.
She whispered only one word.
"Adrian."
