CHAPTER 4 — The Secret Vault Beneath the Hospital

The world believed the nightmare was over.
Victor Hale was in handcuffs.
Television cameras surrounded the courthouse.
Adrian, Elena, and Noah finally stood together as a family.
But less than twenty-four hours later...
The lead federal investigator received an anonymous package.
Inside was a single hospital keycard.
A blueprint.
And one handwritten sentence.
"The real evidence is still underground."
The investigation immediately shifted back to St. Catherine Medical Center—the hospital that had supposedly burned beyond repair twenty-two years earlier.
Most of the building had been demolished years ago.
But old construction records revealed something strange.
There had once been an unauthorized underground level...
One that never appeared on public blueprints.
Federal agents sealed off the site before sunrise.
Adrian insisted on coming.
"So do I," Elena said firmly.
"I know what's down there."
The elevator shaft had long been filled with concrete, forcing rescue crews to drill through nearly twelve feet of reinforced flooring.
After six exhausting hours...
Their equipment broke into a hidden chamber.
Cold air rushed upward.
The lights from dozens of flashlights swept across an underground laboratory that looked as though time had stopped.
Dust covered stainless-steel tables.
Medical equipment remained plugged into emergency generators that had somehow survived.
Rows of locked filing cabinets lined the walls.
Then Noah noticed something no one else did.
A child's drawing taped to one cabinet.
A stick-figure family.
A smiling nurse.
A little boy.
And a tall man in a suit.
Across the top were four heartbreaking words.
"Daddy will find us."
Elena burst into tears.
"I drew this..."
She whispered.
"I made it while they kept me here."
The investigators exchanged uneasy looks.
One agent forced open the nearest cabinet.
Inside were hundreds of patient files.
Most belonged to children.
None had official identities.
Many were simply labeled with numbers.
Then another discovery froze the room.
A refrigerated vault at the far end of the laboratory.
When agents forced the steel door open...
Everyone staggered backward.
Inside sat dozens of glass containers filled with preserved biological samples.
Each one carried the logo of Adrian Wolfe's own charitable foundation.
His charity had unknowingly been used to hide one of the largest illegal human experimentation programs in modern history.
Adrian dropped to one knee.
"They used my name..."
"To destroy innocent families."
But before anyone could process the horror...
One investigator shouted from the control room.
"Sir... you need to see this."
A surveillance computer—still powered after two decades—contained thousands of archived security recordings.
The final video had been recorded the night of the fire.
The timestamp read:
11:58 P.M.
Exactly two minutes before the explosion.
Someone entered the laboratory.
May you like
Not Victor Hale.
Someone even more powerful.
