CHAPTER 6 – The Enemy Inside

Two days later...

Nathan recovered inside a secure military hospital.

Only a handful of people knew his location.

Or so they believed.

Ethan and Clara finally had a chance to sit together as a family.

It felt unreal.

For the first time in eleven years, Ethan had both parents beside him.

Nathan apologized again and again.

"I thought disappearing was the only way to protect you."

Clara quietly replied,

"It protected us from your enemies."

"But not from losing you."

Nathan lowered his head.

Then the hospital television suddenly interrupted its programming.

BREAKING NEWS.

Authorities announced that several members of the criminal organization had already been arrested.

The operation appeared to be over.

Everyone sighed with relief.

Except Nathan.

"It isn't over."

The room fell silent.

"The mastermind was never captured."

At that exact moment, the hospital lights went out.

Darkness swallowed the entire floor.

Emergency alarms began screaming.

Doctors rushed through the hallways.

Backup generators failed.

Nathan immediately reached under his hospital bed.

He pulled out a hidden emergency pistol.

"They're here."

Footsteps echoed outside the room.

Slow.

Confident.

Not running.

Walking.

Someone unlocked the hospital door using an official security key.

A man wearing an FBI uniform entered calmly.

The nurses smiled.

"Agent Collins."

Nathan's face turned white.

"No..."

Collins slowly closed the door behind him.

Then removed his FBI badge.

It was fake.

He smiled coldly.

"I've been hunting you for eleven years, Nathan."

He looked directly at Ethan.

"And now..."

May you like

"The boy comes with me."
