Chapter 9 – The Flash Drive No One Was Meant to See

Daniel locked himself inside an abandoned police evidence room.
Only one companion remained at his side.
Rex.
The German Shepherd lay quietly by the door, ears alert to every sound.
Daniel plugged the flash drive into an offline computer.
For several seconds...
Nothing happened.
Then a single folder appeared.
PROJECT SUITCASE
Inside were thousands of files.
Missing-person reports.
Bribery records.
Surveillance footage.
Secret bank transfers.
Fake investigations.
Corrupt court orders.
Every document connected politicians, business executives, detectives, and organized crime into one enormous criminal network.
But one file stood out.
FOUNDER.mp4
Daniel clicked it.
A video began playing.
The hooded man removed his mask for the first time.
He smiled sadly.
"If you're watching this, it means I'm probably dead."
"My name is Michael Reed."
"I wasn't the leader."
"I was the first detective assigned to expose the network."
Daniel froze.
Michael continued.
"When I uncovered the corruption, they murdered my family."
"They stole children to silence witnesses, move money, and blackmail powerful people."
"So I disappeared."
"I became the monster they were hunting."
"I left clues because I knew one honest officer would eventually find Rex."
Daniel's hands trembled.
"The dog..."
Michael nodded in the recording.
"Rex was my partner before he became yours."
"I trained him to recognize every safe house, every hidden tunnel, and every scent connected to this organization."
Daniel looked down at Rex.
The German Shepherd quietly rested his head on Daniel's knee.
Michael spoke one final sentence.
"If Rex trusts you..."
"...finish what I couldn't."
The video ended.
At that exact moment...

Every light inside the building suddenly went out.
Someone had cut the power.
