CHAPTER 4: The Betrayal Inside the Police Station

Emma’s heart dropped.

Captain Harris smiled like a man who had been waiting years for this moment.

“You always were too curious,” he said.

Emma shielded Noah behind her.

“You sold Daniel out.”

Harris laughed quietly.

“Daniel found records he should never have touched. Human trafficking, dirty money, judges, officers
powerful people. He wanted to expose everyone.”

“And Noah?”

Harris’s smile disappeared.

“That boy is the only living witness.”

Emma’s grip tightened around the hard drive.

Before Harris could step closer, Noah suddenly screamed.

“Behind you!”

A wounded man appeared from the shadows and slammed Harris to the ground.

Emma froze.

It was Daniel.

Alive.

Weak.

Bleeding.

But alive.

“Emma,” he gasped, “run.”

The station erupted into chaos as corrupt officers turned their guns on their own team.

Emma grabbed Noah and Daniel, escaping through the back exit while sirens screamed behind them.

They reached an old ambulance hidden behind the building.

Daniel collapsed inside.

Emma looked at him, tears in her eyes.

“Why didn’t you come back?”

Daniel looked at Noah, then at her.

“Because I wasn’t just protecting my son.”

He swallowed hard.

“I was protecting yours too.”

Emma stopped breathing.

Noah looked up at her and whispered:

“Daddy said you’re my real mommy.”

And before Emma could speak

the hard drive suddenly activated by itself.

A video began playing.

It showed the night Noah was born.
