CHAPTER 7: The Father Behind the Empire

Emma stared at the faded photograph.
The little girl smiling beside the elegant businessman looked exactly like her.
"This is fake," she whispered.
The old man slowly shook his head.
"My name is Samuel Graves. I served your mother for twenty-five years."
He carefully stepped forward, keeping his hands where Emma could see them.
"I helped her hide you."
Daniel immediately raised his pistol.
"Don't come any closer."
Samuel sighed.
"You think I'm working for Victor Langford."
"Aren't you?" Emma demanded.
Samuel pulled a weathered envelope from his jacket and gently placed it on the floor.
"Your mother told me to give you this only if Victor ever found you."
Emma cautiously opened it.
Inside was a handwritten letter.
The paper had yellowed with age.
The first line stole the air from her lungs.
My dearest Emma... if you're reading this, I've already been murdered.
Tears blurred her vision.
The letter revealed a truth more horrifying than she had imagined.
Twenty-nine years earlier, Victor Langford had not built his fortune through innovation.
He had built it by creating an international criminal network that trafficked children, laundered billions of dollars, and eliminated anyone who threatened to expose him.
Emma's mother had discovered everything.
When she tried to escape with her young daughter, Victor ordered his men to hunt them down.
Samuel managed to save Emma...
But her mother stayed behind to buy them time.
She never escaped.
Emma folded the letter with trembling hands.
"So... Victor really is my father."
Samuel nodded.
"By blood."
"But never by heart."
Before anyone could speak again, Daniel's face suddenly turned pale.
He looked toward the warehouse entrance.
"They're here."
More than twenty black SUVs surrounded the building.
Helicopters circled overhead.
Powerful floodlights pierced the darkness.
A loudspeaker echoed across the empty warehouse.
"Emma Carter."
"Hand over the hard drives."
"And your son."
"You have sixty seconds."
Noah clung tightly to Emma.
"I'm scared, Mommy."
Emma kissed his forehead.
"I won't let anyone take you."
Then...
The warehouse doors slowly opened.
A single man walked inside.
Perfectly dressed in a tailored black suit.
Silver hair.
Calm smile.
No bodyguards beside him.
Only confidence.
Victor Langford.
He looked directly into Emma's eyes.
May you like
Then smiled as though greeting an old friend.
"Hello, daughter."
