Chapter 4 - The Secret DossierEmily looked down at the three trembling boys. Their little chests were still heaving with sobs. She knew walking away right now would mean abandoning them to a nightmare from which they might never wake up.

She gently peeled Noah’s arms from around her neck and set him down, keeping a protective hand on his shoulder.
Then, she looked straight into the eyes of the wealthiest man in Silicon Valley.
"Get up, Mr. Hawthorne," Emily said, her voice dropping all traces of subservience. The meek housekeeper was gone; standing in her place was a woman forged in steel. "If you want your children safe, you need to stop crying and start listening."
Richard scrambled to his feet, nodding frantically. "Anything. Name your price. Name anything you want—shares, real estate, a blank check—just tell me what to do!"
"I don't want your money," Emily snapped, pulling a small, battered leather notebook from the front pocket of her navy uniform skirt. "If I wanted your money, I would have taken the bribe your fiancée offered me two weeks ago to look the other way."
Richard’s jaw dropped. "A bribe? Victoria offered you money?"
"To quit quietly and never ask about the boys' medical records," Emily replied coldly. She flipped open the notebook, revealing meticulously organized columns of dates, times, financial transaction receipts, medical incident reports, and printed screenshots of text messages.
"For the past six months, Victoria Lane hasn't just been planning a wedding," Emily said, holding up the notebook like a sword of Damocles. "She has been systematically embezzling funds from your personal R&D accounts, routing them through offshore shell companies in the Caymans, and using your own security team to monitor the boys' communications."
Richard stared at the pages, his breath catching in his throat. The handwriting was neat, undeniable, backed up with bank routing numbers and cryptographic hashes that only a master systems architect could trace.
"How... how do you have this?" Richard stammered, his hands shaking as he reached for the book.

Emily pulled it back just out of reach. "Because before I became your housekeeper, Mr. Hawthorne, I was senior director of cybersecurity for Apex Technologies—before your own merger squeezed me out three years ago. I took this job because my sister died, and I needed peace. But I never stopped watching your back."
Richard stared at her, utterly paralyzed. The humble woman who cooked his children’s meals and washed his floors was a certified cybersecurity elite who had just uncovered a corporate heist orchestrated by his own bride-to-be.
