Chapter 9 - A New DawnBefore Richard could ask what her terms were, a soft patter of footsteps echoed from the hallway.

Three small figures in clean pajamas padded into the kitchen. Ethan, Noah, and Liam rubbed their sleepy eyes, dragging their blankets behind them.
Without a word, they walked straight past Richard and wrapped their arms around Emily’s waist, burying their faces in her skirt.
"Miss Emily... are you staying?" Liam asked, his voice trembling with sleep and uncertainty. "Are you going to sleep here tonight?"
Emily’s stern facade melted instantly. A tender, radiant smile broke across her face as she knelt down, wrapping her arms around all three boys and kissing the top of their heads.
"I’m not going anywhere, babies," Emily whispered softly. "I promised I'd take care of you, and I keep my promises."
Richard watched the scene unfold, a heavy lump forming in his throat. He realized, with sudden, crystal-clear clarity, that Emily wasn't just an employee or a cybersecurity expert who had saved his family.
She was the heart of this home. Without her, the mansion was just an empty, cold mausoleum of glass and steel.
Richard cleared his throat gently, stepping closer. He knelt down beside Emily and his sons, looking directly into Emily’s eyes.
"My terms," Emily said, looking past the boys to meet Richard’s gaze directly, "are simple. First, the children eat dinner with us every single night at the dining table—no exceptions, no board meetings, no excuses."
Richard nodded without hesitation. "Agreed."
"Second," Emily continued, a faint twinkle of amusement dancing in her eyes, "you start learning how to cook breakfast yourself on weekends. I am not touching your burnt pancakes ever again."
A genuine, rare chuckle escaped Richard’s lips—the first real laugh he had shared in years. "Agreed. Pancakes are officially banned from my repertoire."

"And third," Emily said, her voice turning firm, "no more gatekeepers. If there’s a problem in this house, we talk face-to-face. No assumptions. No blind trust."
Richard reached out, placing his hand over hers on the kitchen floor. His touch was warm, steady, and deeply sincere. "Deal."
