Chapter 5 - Sirens on the HorizonBefore Richard could process the revelation, a high-pitched wail pierced the morning air.

Wee-woo! Wee-woo! Wee-woo!

A sleek black-and-white police cruiser turned the corner of the gated community, its overhead lights flashing a blinding red and blue. Behind it rolled a heavy black unmarked van with tinted windows.

The vehicles slammed to a halt directly in front of the Hawthorne estate gates.

Car doors flew open. Four armed local police officers hopped out, led by Captain Vance—a man whose campaign dinners Richard had personally funded for the last five years.

"Mr. Hawthorne! Thank God!" Captain Vance jogged over, looking intensely relieved. Then his eyes locked onto Emily, and his expression instantly hardened into calculated hostility. "There she is! That’s the suspect! Arrest her immediately!"

Two officers drew their handcuffs and marched straight toward Emily.

"Stop right there!" Richard thundered, stepping directly into their path. His voice carried the terrifying, commanding authority that made Fortune 500 CEOs tremble in fear.

The officers skidded to a halt, looking completely bewildered.

"Mr. Hawthorne?" Captain Vance blinked, walking up with a confused smile. "Sir, your fiancée called us ten minutes ago. Said your former housekeeper stole a multi-million-dollar heirloom Rolex and sensitive corporate backup drives from your home office. We have a warrant for her arrest."

Richard turned around slowly. His face was a mask of cold, terrifying fury.

"A warrant?" Richard’s voice was dangerously quiet. "Based on whose testimony?"

"Ms. Lane’s, sir. She found the Rolex in the housekeeper's luggage right outside the gates, and the server drives were just pinged inside an abandoned locker downtown registered under Ms. Carter's name."

"A complete fabrication," Richard spat, his eyes locking onto the captain with a look that promised utter destruction. "Captain Vance, rescind the warrant right now. And arrest the person inside my house."

Captain Vance stared at the billionaire, dumbfounded. "Sir? Arrest your fiancée? Are you out of your mind? She’s standing right over there!"

Across the street, the iron gates swung open.

Victoria Lane stepped out, gliding gracefully down the marble steps. She had changed into a sympathetic, tear-streaked facade, dabbing her eyes with an expensive lace handkerchief as she walked toward the group.

"Richard, darling!" Victoria cried out, her voice trembling with manufactured fragility. "Thank goodness you found the boys! That thief... she must have brainwashed them! Please, let the police take her away before she hurts anyone else!"
