Chapter 3 - Three Seconds of Absolute ChaosThe screen of Vanessa’s phone flashed green. The file had been sent to every major news outlet, gossip blogger, and board member within a fifty-mile radius.

"You're insane," Adrien muttered, stepping toward her.

"I'm pragmatic," Vanessa corrected, turning on her heel toward the door. "Enjoy your little reunion, children. I’ll make sure the press has front-row seats when you crawl out of this estate with nothing."

As Vanessa reached for the doorknob, Maya moved.

It wasn't a dramatic, slow-motion movement. It was the precise, explosive reflex of someone who had spent years dodging flying objects in a chaotic household and managing split-second kitchen disasters. In one fluid motion, Maya stepped past Adrien, grabbed the heavy crystal water pitcher from the side table, and deliberately knocked it off the edge.

Crash.

A hundred shards of crystal exploded across the doorway, blocking Vanessa’s path and sending a sharp, echoing shockwave through the corridor.

Vanessa screamed, jumping back as a jagged piece grazed the hem of her designer gown. "Are you out of your mind?! You filthy, clumsy—"

Before Vanessa could finish her sentence, Adrien understood. He didn't hesitate.

In a move that defied every social convention, every corporate rule, and every security protocol in the building, Adrien grabbed Maya by the waist, pulled her flush against his chest, and crashed his lips against hers.

It was a kiss that lasted less than three seconds.

It was rough, desperate, electric, and utterly undeniable.

And right at that exact millisecond, the double doors of the private dining room swung wide open.

Elena Alvarez stood in the doorway, holding a tray of champagne flutes. Behind her stood three senior board members, a prominent tech journalist, and half a dozen wealthy elite guests who had wandered away from the ballroom looking for a quiet drink.

The silence that followed was absolute. You could hear the distant murmur of the string quartet downstairs, playing a cheerful Vivaldi concerto over a massacre of social decorum.

Vanessa’s jaw hit the floor. Her phone slipped from her fingers, clattering onto the marble tile.

"My god," whispered Arthur Sinclair, Vanessa’s father, pushing his way through the crowd with a face the color of overripe plum. "What... what is the meaning of this?!"

May you like

Adrien slowly pulled back, keeping one hand firmly around Maya’s waist. He didn't look flustered. He looked dangerous.

"The meaning, Arthur," Adrien said, his voice carrying clearly across the stunned room, "is that I am calling off the wedding. And as for the merger? You and your daughter can take your shell companies and get out of my house before I have you arrested for corporate espionage."
