Chapter 8 - Whispers in the DarkWhile peace settled over the Whitmore estate, miles away in a sterile holding facility, the walls were closing in on the fallen dynasty.

Arthur Sinclair sat on the edge of a metal cot, staring blankly at the concrete floor. His empire was gone. His accounts were frozen by federal regulators. The board members he had bribed had already cut deals with prosecutors to save themselves.
The heavy metal door clicked open, and a guard stepped aside.
Vanessa walked in, her hair disheveled, her designer dress replaced by a standard orange jumpsuit. Her face was twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated fury.
"They denied bail," Vanessa hissed, grabbing the metal bars of the partition. "Dad, do something! Call someone! Use the offshore accounts in Zurich!"
"There are no accounts, Vanessa," Arthur said, his voice hollow, sounding ten years older than he had three days ago. "The federal investigators seized everything. The shell companies were traced back to your IP address. You tried to frame a maid, and you stepped right into a trap that Elena and Adrien had been building for months."
"It's not my fault!" Vanessa screamed, banging her fists against the metal bars. "It’s her! That wretched, dirty little maid took everything from us! She stole my wedding, she stole my name, she stole my future!"
"No, Vanessa," a cold, smooth voice echoed from the dimly lit corridor behind her.
Vanessa froze.
Step by measured step, a tall figure emerged from the shadows. It wasn't a guard. It was Marcus Vance—former senior legal counsel for Sinclair International, and the man who had secretly helped Elena and Maya compile the financial dossier that destroyed the Sinclairs.
Marcus stopped outside the cell, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses with a chilling smile.
"Miss Coleman didn't steal anything from you," Marcus said smoothly, leaning against the concrete wall. "You tried to play chess against grandmasters while you were still learning how to knock over the pieces. And now? The game is over."

"Who the hell are you?!" Vanessa shrieked, lunging toward the bars.
"Just a man who appreciates good housekeeping," Marcus replied, turning on his heel. "Enjoy your stay, Miss Sinclair. The trial is scheduled for next month, and the jury pool in Bellweather loves a good story about arrogant elites getting their comeuppance."
