Chapter 6 - THE HOUSE OF CARDS COLLAPSESThe red and blue flashing lights of federal police cruisers painted the rain-slicked walls of the Serrano estate in dramatic, shifting hues. The heavy wrought-iron security gates, previously locked by the smart-home override, were wrenched open by tactical officers carrying federal warrants.

Inside the grand foyer, Doña Elvira sat rigidly on an antique velvet armchair, flanked by two armed federal agents. The silk robe that had once symbolized her untouchable status now looked like a shroud. Her pearl necklace felt heavy around her neck—a noose of her own making.
Julián, bleeding from the jaw and sporting a pair of heavy steel handcuffs, was being escorted out the front door toward a detention van.
Upstairs in the master study, Mauricio stood by the window watching the commotion below, while a team of trusted private medics examined Fernanda and baby Mateo.
Fernanda was wrapped in a thick wool blanket, sipping warm water laced with electrolytes. The medical scan confirmed what Mauricio had feared: for over six weeks, Elvira had been systematically administering a low-dose synthetic neurotoxin into Fernanda’s evening tea—a chemical compound designed specifically to mimic severe postpartum psychosis, memory loss, and motor instability.
The door to the study opened quietly, and a federal investigator stepped inside, holding a glowing tablet.
“Mr. Serrano,” the agent said formally, nodding toward Mauricio. “We executed a simultaneous raid on Valeria Cruz’s residence in Polanco thirty minutes ago. Her personal hard drives have been seized. We found a full paper trail linking her corporate embezzlements, the falsified real estate deeds, and the conspiracy to institutionalize your wife under a fraudulent psychiatric pretext.”
Mauricio exhaled a long, shaky breath, feeling a crushing weight slowly lift from his chest. “And the custody filings?”
“Voided immediately by a federal judge on the grounds of malicious procedural fraud,” the agent replied. “Your mother and Valeria Cruz will face federal charges of conspiracy, kidnapping, administering noxious substances, and corporate fraud. They won't be seeing daylight anytime soon.”
Mauricio closed his eyes, offering a silent prayer of gratitude before turning back toward the medical team.
Fernanda looked up at him, her eyes bright, clear, and free of the heavy, drugged fog that had held her captive for weeks. The fierce, brilliant architect he had fallen in love with in Guadalajara was finally returning.
“Are they gone?” Fernanda asked softly, her voice steady.
Mauricio walked over, knelt beside her chair, and took her uninjured hand in both of his, pressing a warm kiss to her knuckles.
“They’re gone, my love,” Mauricio whispered, tears of relief finally spilling over his lashes. “It’s over. No one will ever hurt you or our son in this house again.”
Fernanda offered a weak, beautiful smile, leaning her head against his shoulder as baby Mateo cooed softly in his crib, resting peacefully for the first time in weeks.

The nightmare was finally over. Or so Mauricio thought.
What none of them knew—sitting in the quiet warmth of the restored nursery—was that Valeria Cruz had left one final, automated contingency program running on the company's central mainframe. A program designed to execute precisely at 4:00 A.M., targeting not just Mauricio’s family, but the entire financial foundation of the Serrano empire.
