Chapter 5 - THE EVICTION NOTICE

Before Vanessa could process the total destruction of her social standing, the ballroom doors swung open yet again.

This time, it wasn't the police. It was our private estate manager, holding a thick manila envelope and a set of master keys. He walked straight past the murmuring crowd and stopped directly in front of Daniel.

“Good evening, Mr. Harrison,” the manager said loudly, addressing Daniel. “Per instructions from Apex Global legal division, the lease agreement for your primary residence at Kensington Estates has been terminated effective immediately.”

Daniel stared at him, completely paralyzed. “Terminated? That house was supposed to be my wedding gift!”

“It was a corporate-leased asset provided to you under your executive employment contract,” Marcus Vance explained, stepping forward with a cold smile. “An employment contract which, as of ten seconds ago, has been permanently terminated due to gross financial mismanagement and ethical violations.”

Vanessa shrieked, losing whatever composure she had left. She lunged forward, trying to grab the envelope from the estate manager’s hands, but stumbled in her heavy silk gown, collapsing onto the polished floor right in front of the tiers of the half-eaten wedding cake.

The cake wobbled violently. The top tier leaned precariously to the left, then crashed down directly onto her pristine white veil, splattering strawberry filling all over her designer gown.

Four hundred guests watched in stunned silence as the bride sat amidst crumbs and icing, weeping hysterically while her dream life dissolved into absolute nothingness.

Daniel stood frozen above her, unable to offer a hand, unable to offer comfort, and completely stripped of the wealth he had taken for granted his entire life.

I looked at my son one last time. There was no anger left in my heart—only a profound, chilling emptiness. He had chosen cruelty over loyalty, arrogance over gratitude, and a gold-digger over the parents who had bled for him.

“Come, Eleanor,” I said softly, offering my arm to my wife.

Eleanor took my arm, her head held high. Without looking back once, we turned our backs on the wreckage of the wedding, walking out of the ballroom and into a quiet, peaceful night, leaving Daniel and Vanessa to face the ashes of the empire they thought they owned.
