Chapter 4 - A SUDDEN TWIST"MAISIE!" Leo screamed, lunging forward, but Julian’s enforcers slammed him back against the chain-link fence, pinning his arms behind his back.

The crowd closed their eyes. Several men turned away, not wanting to watch a child get torn apart.
Cyrus flew through the air, his jaws wide open, fangs glistening under the industrial lights. But right as he reached her, something impossible happened.
Instead of clamping down on her neck, Cyrus's massive momentum carried him sliding past her shoulder. He skidded into the dirt, kicking up a cloud of dust, and spun around with a frantic yelp.
He didn't attack.
Instead, Cyrus pressed his massive, scarred snout directly against the side of Maisie’s neck. He inhaled deeply, his entire body trembling violently. The terrifying, feral beast suddenly looked like a lost, terrified puppy. He let out a long, ragged whimper that sounded heartbreakingly human.
Maisie stopped humming. Slowly, her small, pale hand reached out, her fingertips brushing against the thick, bristly fur of the dog's scarred muzzle.
"I know," Maisie whispered softly, her voice carrying through the stunned silence. "They hurt you so much. They lied to you. But you don't have to be scared anymore."
Cyrus let out a deep, shuddering sigh. To the absolute horror and shock of every single criminal in the room, the three-hundred-pound killing machine lowered his massive haunches and sat down right beside her, pressing his entire body flush against her side for protection.
Five minutes began to tick on the massive digital clock hanging above the entrance.

Julian Hart’s jaw dropped. The cigar in his hand slipped from his fingers, hitting the concrete with a soft thud. For the first time in twenty years of ruling the underground underworld with an iron fist, Julian was completely, utterly speechless.
"计时开始 (The timer starts)," Julian whispered, his voice laced with disbelief. "Keep your eyes on the clock. If that dog moves an inch... everyone dies."
