Chapter 1 - THE BLOODLINE LEDGER“You slapped the mother of the Kane empire’s only true heir!”The industrial kitchen was so silent you could hear the steady drop of water from the stainless steel sink.

Alexander Kane stood frozen, his hand still cradling the bruised cheek of Elena—the woman he had searched for across three continents for seven long years. Beside them, Valeria stood clad in her custom pink silk dress, her diamond earrings glistening under the harsh fluorescent lights. Her face had turned as white as porcelain.
"Alex, baby... she’s lying!" Valeria screeched, her voice cracking with desperation. "She’s a low-life line cook! She forged whatever fantasy she’s spewing to extort you!"
Alexander slowly turned his head. His dark grey eyes, usually calculating and cold enough to freeze boardroom acquisitions, burnt with absolute fury.
"Valeria," Alexander said, his voice dropping an octave. "Did you touch her?"
"She spilled soup on my dress!" Valeria stammered, stepping back as Alexander took a thunderous step toward her. "I was just teaching staff a lesson! You can’t believe this insane lie!"
Elena wiped a tear from her cheek, her hands shaking inside her stained chef’s apron. She reached into her worn leather pocket and pulled out a tarnished silver locket attached to a faded birth certificate.
"I don't want your money, Alexander," Elena said, her voice trembling but fierce. "I came to this banquet to work, not to find you. But your mistress degraded me, humiliated me, and told me my daughter would grow up a nobody just like her mother."
Alexander took the silver locket. Inside was a tiny photograph of a seven-year-old girl with Alexander’s unmistakable violet-grey eyes and dark curls. Attached was a certified birth document stamped by the state capital: Father: Alexander Vance Kane.
"Her name is Chloe," Elena whispered.
Alexander felt as though the floor had given way beneath him. Seven years ago, Elena had vanished overnight after a fiery romance that had ended abruptly when Alexander was framed for a corporate scandal. He had thought she abandoned him. In reality, she had been fleeing for her life—carrying his child.
Alexander turned back to Valeria. "Security!"
Four tall, suited guards burst into the kitchen.
"Strip her of the access pass," Alexander commanded without looking at Valeria. "Freeze every credit line registered under her name. Throw her out into the rain."
"Alex! You can't do this to me! I'm your fiancee!" Valeria screamed as the guards seized her arms, dragging her backward across the wet floor tiles. "She's a fraud! You'll regret this!"

Alexander ignored her screams echoing down the hall. He turned back to Elena, taking her rough, burnt hands into his own. "Where is she, Elena? Where is my daughter?"
CLIFFHANGER: As Valeria was thrown out into the pouring rain outside the estate, she pulled out a encrypted satellite phone. "Plan A failed," she hissed into the receiver. "Release the smear campaign. Destroy the child before Alexander legitimizes her."
