CHAPTER 6 — The Truth That Cost Everything

Daniel pulled Rowan behind an overturned table.
Another gunshot echoed through the house.
Then—
Silence.
The attackers weren't trying to rob anyone.
They were searching.
Room by room.
Helen clutched Rowan's sleeve.
"If they find those documents..."
"They'll destroy everything."
Rowan grabbed the evidence and slipped it beneath his jacket.
Daniel whispered,
"Back door."
They moved through the dark hallway.
Just as they reached the kitchen, a masked man stepped into their path.
Before he could raise his weapon, another voice thundered through the house.
"Police! Drop it!"
The intruder fled through a broken window.
Within minutes, flashing blue lights surrounded the property.
The attackers escaped.
But they left something behind.
A cellphone.
Detectives recovered it immediately.
Hours later, Rowan sat inside the sheriff's office as investigators unlocked the device.
The first message appeared on the screen.
Delete every hospital record.
The second:
If the nurse talks, make sure she never reaches court.
Then came the final message.
It had been sent only three hours earlier.
From a contact saved as...
R.B.
Rowan frowned.
His initials.
Someone had deliberately created the contact to mislead investigators.
The detective opened the sender information.
Everyone in the room went silent.
The number wasn't registered to Rowan.
It belonged to Richard Bellamy.
Rowan's uncle.
The man who had served as Bellamy Technologies' Chief Financial Officer for nearly twenty-five years.
The same man who had encouraged Rowan to divorce Maren.
The same man who had introduced Tessa into Rowan's social circle.
Suddenly every piece of the puzzle began to fit together.
This had never been just about destroying a marriage.
It was about control.
If Rowan divorced Maren, remarried Tessa, and never discovered his children, Richard would quietly retain control over family assets, trusts, and voting shares that legally belonged to Rowan's heirs.
The conspiracy had never been driven by jealousy alone.
It had been driven by billions of dollars.
As Rowan absorbed the revelation, Detective Mason looked up from the phone.
"Mr. Bellamy..."
"We've just received another report."
"What now?"
The detective's face turned pale.
"Maren is missing."
"The twins disappeared with her less than thirty minutes ago."

On the front seat of her abandoned pickup truck, officers found only one handwritten note.
'If you want your family back... come alone.'
