Chapter 2 - The Midnight EvictionThe lightning flash outside illuminated the tall windows of the foyer in a harsh, brilliant white, followed instantly by a deafening crash of thunder that shook the historic windowpanes.

Sienna gasped, clutching the stolen pearls against her throat as if they could shield her from the sudden, terrifying shift in power. “Damien... what is that? What is she talking about?”

Damien didn’t answer her. He slowly bent down, picked up the legal document, and scanned the text. His face, usually flushed with the healthy glow of a multi-millionaire oligarch who never faced consequences, turned completely ashen. The signature at the bottom wasn’t an old agreement; it bore today’s date, executed by the senior partners of Port Alder’s most ruthless maritime law firm.

“You filed a total asset freeze,” Damien whispered, his voice losing its customary baritone rumble. “You locked the operating accounts?”

“Every single one,” Claire said, snapping the leather briefcase shut. “Your personal cards, your business liquidity, and the discretionary funds you’ve been using to finance Miss Cole’s boutique consulting firm in Seattle. As of three minutes ago, you are legally broke, Damien.”

“You insane bitch!” Damien lunged forward, his mask completely shattering. The polished, untouchable investor vanished, replaced by a desperate, cornered predator. He reached for Claire’s throat, his massive hand moving with terrifying speed—

Crack.

The heavy mahogany front door swung violently open inward, slamming against the interior wall with a force that rattled the chandelier.

Two massive private security guards in charcoal tactical suits stepped into the foyer, flanked by a tall, striking man with sharp, aristocratic features and cold silver-blue eyes. He wore a bespoke midnight-blue tuxedo, an umbrella dripping rain onto the marble floor at his feet.

Julian Vance.

Port Alder hadn’t seen Julian in five years—not since he walked out of the local courthouse after winning the most brutal corporate dissolution lawsuit in Pacific Northwest history against none other than Damien Cross.

“I believe the lady asked you to keep your hands to yourself, Cross,” Julian said, his voice smooth, effortless, and dripping with absolute contempt.

Damien froze, his hand hovering inches from Claire. He slowly turned around, his chest heaving with rage. “Vance. What the hell are you doing trespassing in my house?”

Julian stepped further into the hallway, pulling off his leather gloves with deliberate slowness. “Your house? Damien, let’s be entirely accurate. I represent the primary lienholder and executor of the Whitmore Trust. And as of ten minutes ago, my client has authorized an immediate writ of possession.”

Julian turned his gaze from Damien to Claire, his cold expression instantly softening into something warm, steady, and deeply intimate. He offered her his hand.

“Good evening, Claire. Are you ready to leave?”

Claire looked at Damien’s distorted, furious face, then down at Sienna, who was trembling in terror against the wall. Without hesitation, Claire placed her hand inside Julian’s warm palm.

“I’m ready,” Claire said clearly.

As Julian led her past the stunned, paralyzed couple toward the open night, Damien roared behind them, “You think this is over?! I will destroy every single one of you!”

Julian didn’t even look back. He simply pulled Claire close against the chill of the storm, sheltering her under his umbrella as they stepped out into the rain, leaving Damien Cross standing alone in the ruins of his stolen empire.
