Chapter 6 - The Public ExecutionThe music instantly cut out. The pianist's fingers froze on the keys, and the cheerful murmur of five hundred elite socialites dissolved into an absolute, breathless silence.

Damien ignored the sea of staring faces. His bloodshot eyes locked entirely on the center of the dance floor, where Claire stood beside Julian Vance, looking like royalty surveying a peasant uprising.
“Claire!” Damien’s voice echoed harshly across the vaulted ceilings of the ballroom, cracking with raw, unfiltered fury. He marched straight down the center aisle, pushing past stunned donors and high-ranking city councilmen.
Two private security guards moved to intercept him, but Claire raised a single hand, signaling them to stand down.
She wanted him to walk right into the trap.
Damien stopped ten feet away from her, his chest heaving, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles were stark white.
“Are you insane?!” Damien yelled, pointing a shaking finger directly at her face. “You called the federal marshals?! You froze my personal accounts? You destroyed everything I built over twenty years in less than twelve hours?!”
Claire didn’t flinch. She tilted her head slightly, her gaze cold, calm, and utterly piercing.
“Everything you built, Damien?” she asked, her voice carrying clearly across the silent ballroom. “You mean the empire built on foundation embezzlement, stolen shell company dividends, and intimidation tactics against junior partners?”
“You ruined me!” Damien snarled, taking a threatening step forward. “We are still legally married! Whatever I did, whatever assets I held, belong to us!”
“Not anymore,” a smooth, deep voice interrupted.
Julian Vance stepped forward, placing himself squarely between Claire and Damien, his tall frame towering over the desperate man. Julian reached inside his tuxedo jacket, pulled out a crisp, official document, and flipped it open.
“Allow me to introduce myself, Mr. Cross, in case you forgot my title,” Julian said, his voice dropping into a dangerous, icy register. “I am Julian Vance. Senior partner of Vance & Associates, and as of 4:00 PM today, the court-appointed receiver of your entire corporate portfolio, personal estate, and pending divorce settlement.”
Damien’s eyes widened in sheer horror. “No... that’s impossible. The judge wouldn't grant a fast-track dissolution without a six-month waiting period!”
“When the spouse presents undeniable, real-time evidence of international money laundering, document forgery, and a hidden offshore account funded by stolen children’s medical trust funds,” Julian smiled coldly, “judges tend to make exceptions.”
A collective gasp rippled through the ballroom. Whispers erupted like wildfire among the donors and politicians.
Damien looked around frantically, realizing that every single person in this room—the very people who used to bow to him at charity dinners—were now looking at him with disgust, horror, and pity.
“Claire...” Damien’s voice finally broke, shifting from furious rage into desperate, pathetic pleading. He took a staggering step toward his wife, his hands reaching out. “Claire, please. We can fix this. Drop the charges. Come home. I made a mistake... it was just business—”
He reached out to grab her hand.
The exact same hand that wore the heavy diamond engagement ring he had forced upon her four years ago.
Claire didn’t move an inch.
Julian reacted with lightning speed. He caught Damien’s wrist mid-air in a crushing, unyielding grip, twisting his arm slightly back with professional martial arts precision.
Damien let out a sharp grunt of pain, stumbling backward.
“Never touch her again,” Julian whispered, his face inches from Damien’s, his silver-blue eyes flashing with absolute lethal intent.
Before Damien could recover his balance, four heavy security guards converged on him from all sides, grabbing his arms and pinning him securely.
“Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am?!” Damien screamed, kicking and thrashing as they dragged him backward toward the service doors. “Claire! You’ll regret this! You hear me?! You’ll regret this!”

His furious screams echoed down the hallway until the heavy oak doors slammed shut, cutting off the noise entirely.
Silence descended once again over the grand ballroom.
