Ethan stood at the head of the table, clicking through a digital slide deck he had spent forty-eight hours compiling.
"As you can see, gentlemen," Ethan said, forcing confidence into his strained voice, "we have secured the premier private island resort in the Seychelles through Bellweather Journeys. The logistics are fully optimized, and all accommodations are locked in."
The senior managing director, an older man with sharp gray eyes, leaned back in his chair. "And the financial clearance? Did you manage to negotiate down that absurd upfront deposit?"
Ethan swallowed hard, his throat tightening. "Well... the deposit terms are firm, sir. But the quality of execution guaranteed by Bellweather is unmatched in the industry."
"Unmatched or not," a cold voice spoke from the doorway of the boardroom.
The door swung open.
Stepping into the room was a representative from Apex’s corporate compliance office, accompanied by a senior partner from the legal division.
"We just received an audit notice regarding Invoice 9824," the compliance officer announced, dropping a thick folder onto the table. "Mr. Cole failed to disclose that the primary vendor, Bellweather Journeys, is owned by his legally divorced former spouse—a direct conflict of interest under corporate governance guidelines."
The entire boardroom erupted into immediate uproar.
