Chapter 8 - The Return to the Tower

Four days after being discharged from St. Catherine Medical Center, I walked through the grand glass doors of Hale Meridian Industries for the first time as Chief Executive Officer.

The lobby was packed.

Financial journalists from Bloomberg, CNBC, and the Wall Street Journal stood shoulder-to-shoulder behind metal stanchions, their cameras flashing like rolling lightning storms as I stepped out of the private elevator accompanied by Marcus Vance and a security detail.

I wasn't wearing a hospital gown. I wore a tailored midnight-blue pantsuit, my hair sleek and pulled back, my head held high. In my arms, cradled securely in a soft cashmere sling against my chest, slept my newborn daughter, Elena.

The camera flashes clicked furiously, capturing every detail—the quiet strength in my posture, the peaceful face of my daughter, and the absolute absence of hesitation in my stride.

I walked past the reception desk where Vanessa Cole used to sit and issue petty, arrogant decrees. I walked past the executive suite where Daniel had plotted his hostile takeovers behind closed doors.

And I walked straight into the main corporate boardroom, where the entire board of directors—every single man and woman who had once blindly nodded along to Daniel’s authoritarian rule—stood up in absolute unison as I entered the room.

Marcus pulled out the primary leather chair at the head of the long mahogany conference table—the seat that had belonged to my father, and the seat Daniel had tried so desperately to steal.

I sat down, settling Elena comfortably against my chest with one arm while resting my other hand flat on the cool, polished wood of the table.

The room was completely silent, waiting for my first words.

"Good morning, everyone," I said, my voice carrying clearly across the expansive room, steady and resolute. "Let's get to work."
