Chapter 2 - THE ALLIANCE OF BLOOD

The headlights of four armored SUVs blinded them, cutting through the heavy downpour. Doors slammed in unison. Men in heavy tactical gear, bearing the insignia of the Vance Syndicate's elite death squad, poured into the alley, rifles raised.
"We have a problem," Dante muttered, his Beretta finally clearing his holster.
"Only if you miss," Elise replied coolly.
Before the lead gunman could issue an order, Elise threw something toward the SUVs. A small, metallic sphere bounced twice on the wet asphalt.
EMP.
The headlights died instantly. The alley was plunged into near-total darkness, illuminated only by the muzzle flashes that erupted a second later.
Dante didn't become the boss of the city by hiding. He fired three rounds in rapid succession, dropping the frontman of the tactical unit. Beside him, Elise was a whirlwind of silent death. She didn't use a gun; the sound would give away her position in the dark. Instead, she used the environment. A discarded iron pipe became a lethal weapon in her hands, crushing windpipes and shattering kneecaps.
Dante watched her out of the corner of his eye while ducking behind a metal dumpster. She wasn't just defending herself; she was orchestrating a symphony of violence. She moved around him, shielding his blind spots as if they had trained together for years.
"They didn't come for me," Dante shouted over the gunfire, dropping another mercenary. "They came for you!"
"They came for both of us!" Elise yelled back, kicking an attacker into Dante's line of fire. Dante instinctively pulled the trigger, finishing the man. "The Vance Syndicate bought out your inner circle, Dante! Your underboss sold you out tonight!"
The words hit harder than a bullet. Antonio. His cousin. His right hand.
"You're lying!" Dante snarled.
"If I wanted you dead, I would have let you drink the arsenic I put in your coffee three weeks ago!" she shot back, grabbing his lapels and pulling him into a narrow breach in the factory wall just as a hail of automatic gunfire shredded the dumpster they had been using for cover.
Inside the dark, cavernous interior of the abandoned factory, the silence was heavy. Outside, the remaining Syndicate men were regrouping.
Dante pinned her against the wall, his forearm pressed against her throat, his gun pressed to her ribs. "Who are you really, Elise? Give me a name, or this alley becomes your graveyard."

She didn't panic. She looked straight into his winter-cold eyes, her breath warm against his skin.
"My name is Elise Vance," she whispered. "And the man who just ordered your execution... is my father."
