Chapter 6 - THE TWISTED EMPIRE (THE UNEXPECTED ENDING)

Three months later.

The Harbor City underworld had never been more peaceful, or more terrified. The Ravelli and Vance empires had merged into a singular, unstoppable force.

Dante sat in his grand office on the top floor of the Ravelli tower, looking out over the glittering skyline of the city he now fully owned. The door opened softly. Elise walked in, wearing a sharp, tailored black suit. She looked like a queen ruling beside a king.

She placed a fresh cup of coffee on his desk.

Dante smiled, a genuine, rare expression. He picked up the cup. "No arsenic this time?"

"Only a little sugar," she replied, leaning against the desk, her eyes locked onto his.

Over the past few months, they had become inseparable. The city whispered about the terrifying duo—the ruthless Don and his phantom queen. They trusted each other with their lives. They had bled together.

Dante took a sip of the coffee.

Then, his brow furrowed. A strange, metallic taste washed over his tongue.

He looked down at the cup, then up at Elise. His vision suddenly began to blur. The room tilted violently. His heart hammered against his ribs, slowing down to a heavy, agonizing thud.

"Elise...?" Dante gasped, trying to reach for the gun in his desk drawer, but his arm felt like it was made of lead. He collapsed forward onto the mahogany desk, paralyzed, but fully conscious.

Elise didn't panic. She didn't call for help. She simply reached out and gently slid the desk drawer shut, locking his gun away.

"I’m sorry, Dante," she said softly, her voice completely calm, devoid of malice but filled with an absolute, chilling finality.

She walked around the desk and sat in his heavy leather chair, looking down at him as his body betrayed him.

"You thought I wanted to destroy my father because he was evil," Elise whispered, leaning over him. "No. I destroyed him because he was sloppy. And I used you to clear out his enforcers, your cousin, and your inner circle."

Dante’s eyes widened in horror. The paralytic was working fast. He couldn't even speak. He had trusted her. He had loved her.

"The Berlin Phantom doesn't work for families, Dante," she said, reaching into his pocket and retrieving the ruby signet ring he had taken from Antonio. She slipped it onto her own thumb. "The Berlin Phantom replaces them."

She stood up, walking toward the massive glass windows overlooking Harbor City. The doors to the office opened, and Dante’s own highest-ranking captains walked in. They didn't look at Dante with concern. Instead, they bowed their heads to Elise.

She had bought them out months ago. The ledger she had stolen in the alley wasn't just bank accounts; it was a list of every corrupt official and mafia captain's deepest, darkest secrets. She controlled them all.

"He had a heart attack," Elise told the captains, her voice echoing through the silent room. "The stress of the merger was too much for Don Ravelli. I will be taking over full operations effective immediately."

The captains nodded and stepped back out, closing the doors.

Elise walked back to the paralyzed Dante. She leaned down, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to his cold forehead.

"Thank you for the coffee tip at the diner, Dante," she whispered in his ear as his eyes slowly began to close for the last time. "You were right. Everyone should know how to hold the pot."

The lights of Harbor City flickered outside, completely unaware that a new, far more dangerous monster had just taken the throne.
