Chapter 4 - THE SPIDER'S WEB

The next forty-eight hours were a masterclass in covert warfare. Hidden away in Elise’s bunker, Dante watched a side of the underworld he had never known existed. Elise didn't just fight; she manipulated information like a master spider weaving a web.
Using the decrypted data from the ledger she had stolen from the Vance enforcers, she systematically froze the Syndicate’s offshore accounts.
"Victor is bleeding money now," Elise explained, her fingers flying across a keyboard. "When a man like my father loses money, he loses loyalty. He’s going to put pressure on Antonio to deliver your head to prove the alliance is still viable."
"Then we give him what he wants," Dante said, leaning over her shoulder. His proximity made her pause for a fraction of a second, her eyes meeting his in the reflection of the monitor. There was an undeniable, dangerous spark growing between them—two monsters recognizing their own reflection.
"A trap?" Elise asked, arching an eyebrow.
"A public execution," Dante corrected. "Tonight is the annual Harbor City Gala. Every corrupt politician, police chief, and mafia boss will be there. Antonio thinks I’m dead or hiding in a ditch. He’s planning to announce his ascension to the Ravelli throne tonight."
"And Victor?"
"Victor will be there to bless the new king," Dante said, his voice dripping with venom. "We walk in through the front door."
"They’ll have a hundred guards, Dante. It’s suicide."
Dante leaned closer, his breath brushing her ear. "Not with the Berlin Phantom by my side."
By 9:00 PM, the grand ballroom of the Harbor City Luxury Hotel was filled with the elite of the underworld. Classical music played while men in tuxedos laughed over champagne, discussing the distribution of narcotics and human trafficking as if they were corporate stocks.
At the high table sat Antonio Ravelli, wearing Dante’s signature ruby signet ring on his finger. Next to him was Victor Vance—an older, cruel-looking man with silver hair and eyes that held no mercy.
"To the new era of Harbor City," Antonio announced, raising his glass to the crowd.
"An era that will be very, very short," a voice echoed from the grand entrance.
The ballroom fell dead silent.
The heavy oak doors swung open. Dante Ravelli walked in, looking every bit the king he was, wearing a pristine black tuxedo. But he wasn't alone.
Beside him stood Elise. She wore a stunning, floor-length backless crimson gown that turned every head in the room. But it wasn't just her beauty that froze the air. It was the twin silenced pistols she held casually at her sides, aimed directly at the high table.
"Dante!" Antonio gasped, dropping his champagne glass. It shattered against the marble floor. "You're... you're supposed to be—"
"Dead?" Dante finished the sentence, stepping forward as his loyal men within the crowd instantly drew their weapons, turning on Antonio's mercenaries. The power dynamic shifted in a heartbeat. "You always were a terrible planner, cousin."
Victor Vance stood up slowly, his eyes ignoring Dante entirely and locking onto the woman in red. His face turned pale, a rare look of genuine shock breaking through his hardened facade.

"Elise?" Victor whispered. "You're alive?"
"Hello, Father," Elise said, her voice echoing with a terrifying sweetness. "I told you I’d see you again when it was time to collect your soul."
