CHAPTER 2: "The Secret Hidden Inside the Medicine"

Daniel couldn't sleep that night.
Lily's warning echoed through his mind over and over.
Don't trust Aunt Emily.
The next morning, while Emily stepped out to answer a phone call, Daniel quietly searched the bedside cabinet.
Hidden behind a box of tissues sat a bottle of vitamins Emily insisted Lily take every afternoon.
Something felt wrong.
The seal looked different.
The label had been carefully peeled off and replaced.
Daniel slipped the bottle into his jacket and secretly asked a nurse to send it for laboratory testing without informing anyone.
Forty-eight agonizing hours later, the results arrived.
Daniel's hands shook as he opened the report.
His face turned white.
The pills contained traces of a substance that could slowly weaken the immune system if taken over several months.
Not enough to kill immediately.
Just enough to make every treatment fail.
Daniel couldn't breathe.
Someone hadn't been trying to save Lily.
Someone had been making sure she never recovered.
Hospital security reviewed surveillance footage.
Camera after camera revealed the same person entering Lily's room whenever Daniel left to buy food or meet doctors.
Emily.
But the biggest shock came during the police investigation.
Emily broke down in tears and confessed.
Years earlier, Daniel's wealthy father had secretly changed his will.
If Lily survived to her eighteenth birthday, she would inherit nearly fifty million dollars and become the sole owner of the family's investment company.
If Lily died before then...
Everything would pass to Emily.
She had spent months pretending to be the perfect aunt while secretly poisoning the child she hugged every day.
Daniel collapsed to his knees, unable to process the betrayal.
Yet fate had one final surprise.
Because Emily's tampering had accidentally delayed Lily's original treatment instead of destroying her body completely, doctors were finally able to identify the real illness once the poisoning stopped.
A new treatment began immediately.
Weeks later...
The little girl everyone believed was dying walked out of the hospital holding her father's hand.
As reporters surrounded them, Lily smiled at Daniel.
"I told you, Daddy..."
"...the truth always wins."
Daniel hugged her tighter than ever before.
He had entered the hospital expecting to say goodbye to his daughter.
