Chapter 3 - The Secret in the CradleMy hands shook so violently the key almost slipped into the sewer grate. My father hadn't abandoned us. He hadn't died in a random industrial accident. His work was connected to Dr. Elena Hart, and whatever they were building ten years ago was the exact reason armed men had just raided my middle school.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. An unknown number.

I pressed answer, holding it to my ear without saying a word.

"Leo. Don't speak, just listen," Dr. Hart’s voice came through, breathless and laced with static. "I am in an armored transport headed toward the safe facility at Pier 42. They intercepted my signals. They know you have the keystone."

"Who are they?!" I cried out, my voice breaking. "And why does this key have my father's initials on it?!"

A heavy silence fell over the line, broken only by the sound of faint monitors beeping in the background—the sound of a newborn baby.

"Your father didn't die in that fire, Leo," Dr. Hart whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "He created the core algorithm for GENESIS—a technology capable of neutralizing hereditary diseases before a child is even born. But the corporation funding us, Apex BioTech, wanted to weaponize it into a target-specific bio-agent. Your father hid the core code inside a living biological vault to protect it from them."

I felt the air leave my lungs. "A living vault... what does that mean?"

"The baby I gave birth to six hours ago in the emergency ward..." Dr. Hart said, tears breaking through her stoic voice. "She doesn't just carry my DNA. She carries your father's encrypted blueprint inside her genetic code. And Apex will burn all of New York to take her."
