Before I could answer, the overhead lights in the community center flickered violently, then died.
The bright, cheerful ambiance of the lobby plunged into sudden, suffocating darkness. Emergency backup generators kicked in a second later, casting an eerie, amber glow across the walls.
At the same time, the automated security alarms began to wail, flashing a sharp, repeating red warning across the main entrance monitors:
