Chapter 15 - The Turning PointThe humiliation on the sidewalk acted like a bitter medicine that finally cleared the delusion from Ethan's mind. He didn't go back to his Queens apartment that night. Instead, he walked along the edge of the East River, watching the dark water churn beneath the city lights.

He thought about his life. He had spent ten years running away from his roots, pretending to be a self-made titan while standing on a mountain of sand built by the woman he had treated like a servant.

He had blamed everyone else—the investors, the board, the lawyers, even Clare. But looking at his calloused hands, he finally owned the truth: He had destroyed everything.

The next morning, Ethan didn't show up for his shift at the logistics warehouse.

Instead, he walked into a small legal aid office near downtown Queens. He didn't ask for high-powered corporate lawyers or flashy litigators. He sat down across from a tired, middle-aged public defender, pulled out his remaining savings, and signed over the final remnants of his personal liability claims, officially clearing away any remaining legal interference with Bennett-Walker Tech.

"Are you sure about this, Mr. Walker?" the attorney asked, reviewing the signed release. "This completely severs any future claim to your former corporate assets."

Ethan nodded slowly, a strange, profound sense of lightness washing over him for the first time in years. "Yes. I'm sure. Let it go."
