Chapter 5 - Unraveling the ChainsWith shaking hands, Adrian pulled a pocketknife from his trousers and sliced through the thick plastic zip-ties binding Elena’s wrists.

As the bonds fell away, Elena rubbed her raw, red wrists, refusing to look at him. She stood up stiffly, wincing as her foot met the cold concrete.
"Elena," Adrian murmured, rising to his feet, reaching out a hand toward her shoulder.
She stepped back, dodging his touch as if his hand carried a plague.
"Don't," she whispered. Her voice was terrifyingly calm.
"Elena, I know. I saw the test. I saw the doctor’s records. I know about the frame-up—"
"You saw a piece of plastic and a medical file," Elena interrupted, her dark eyes flashing with a fury that cut deeper than any knife. "And suddenly your faith in me was restored? Not because I told you the truth, Adrian. Not because you trusted my word after five years of marriage. But because a doctor’s note proved I was carrying your biological asset."
Adrian flinched. The words hit him like a physical blow.
"I was blinded," he said, his voice raw, stripped of all authority, leaving only a desperate man standing before the woman he had wronged. "They had files, bank records, forged notes—"
"They had lies, and you wanted an excuse to believe them," Elena said, shaking her head. "Because deep down, beneath all your power and your billions and your armies, you are still that terrified twenty-two-year-old boy with a borrowed gun. You don't know how to trust. You only know how to calculate risk."
She turned away, walking toward the open bay doors where the storm had finally cleared, leaving behind a pale, blinding morning sun.
"Elena, wait!" Adrian called out, taking a step after her.
"If you follow me," she said without turning around, "you will never see this child. I mean it, Adrian. The moment you chose the folder over my word, our marriage ended. What happens next is up to the courts and our lawyers. But you are out of my life."
She walked out into the sunlight, climbing into the back of an independent transport car that Malcolm Reed had quietly arranged, and vanished down the dirt road.
Adrian didn't follow. He stood frozen on the threshold of the warehouse, watching the dust settle in the morning light.
Behind him, Roland Pierce was being dragged to his feet by the enforcers.
"What do you want us to do with them, boss?" Lucas asked, spitting a bit of dust from his mouth.
May you like
Adrian stared down at his empty hands, his chest hollowed out.
"Take them to the basement," Adrian said quietly. "Keep them alive. I want them to watch every single asset, every account, and every piece of territory they tried to steal get stripped away piece by piece until they have nothing left."
