Chapter 9 - The Web of LiesAdrian stood paralyzed, the world spinning violently around him.

"The pregnancy..." Adrian breathed, the words tasting like poison in his throat. "Was that a lie too?"
Elena looked down at her stomach, her expression softening for a fraction of a second before hardening again.
"No," she said quietly. "That was real. A complication neither of us planned for. A biological accident that nearly ruined everything."
"You were going to let me destroy you," Adrian said, his voice cracking with a pain he had never felt in his entire life. "You walked out into that hurricane... and you were carrying my child."
"Because I knew you wouldn't kill me outright," Elena said, her eyes flashing with ice. "You are too disciplined for a messy execution in your own foyer. You gave me an exit. And that exit gave me the freedom I needed to finalize the transfer of your primary offshore accounts to Moretti Holdings."
She reached into the pocket of her coat and pulled out a sleek flash drive, holding it up between two fingers.
"Ninety percent of your liquid assets, Adrian. Your shipping lanes, your Swiss accounts, your political leverage. It’s all legally transferred under my name as part of our signed divorce settlement—which you signed without reading the fine print."
Adrian stared at her, not with anger, but with a hollow, crushing devastation.
He had survived assassins, federal task forces, and betrayals by his closest friends. But he had been defeated not by bullets, but by a lie wrapped in love.
"You never loved me," Adrian said, the words barely audible over the wind.

Elena looked at him for a long, agonizing moment. The silence between them stretched like a chasm across years of shared memories, whispered secrets, and quiet nights.
"I loved the man you were when you weren't looking over your shoulder," Elena whispered, her voice finally wavering. "But you were always the Mafia boss first, Adrian. And a Moretti always finishes the job."
