Chapter 3 - The Federal Trap

The heavy wooden doors of the cathedral were slammed open from the outside. A dozen armed federal officers rushed in, their tactical vests gleaming under the stained-glass lights.
"Nobody move! Hands where we can see them!" the officers barked.
The guests panicked, dropping to their knees or ducking under the wooden pews. The fairy-tale wedding had officially turned into a crime scene raid.
Victoria stood frozen in the center aisle, caught between her lying fiancé, her corrupt father, and a room full of federal agents. Tears washed away her makeup, but behind the sorrow, a dangerous, dark ember of fury began to ignite inside her.
Julian stepped between Daniel and Richard. "Daniel Miller, alias Daniel Croft, you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, identity theft, corporate espionage, and grand larceny."
Daniel didn't panic. Instead, he laughed. A soft, chilling laugh that resonated through the quiet church.
"You're a bit late, brother," Daniel said smoothly, holding out his hands for the handcuffs. "Go ahead. Arrest me. Take me in. But check the digital ledger first."
Julian frowned, pulling out a tactical tablet and swiping through the live banking networks. Suddenly, Julian’s expression hardened.
"What did you do?" Julian demanded.
"I transferred the controlling shares thirty minutes before I walked down this aisle," Daniel grinned, leaning in close to Julian. "I knew you were tracking my primary accounts, Julian. You always were the predictable big brother. While you were busy building a case against me, I routed the entire forty-million-dollar portfolio through a decentralized crypto network."
"To where?!" Richard roared, clutching his chest as if he were having a heart attack. "Where is my company's money?!"
Daniel turned his gaze slowly onto Clara, the pregnant woman who was still crying near the back pew.
"Ask my beautiful wife," Daniel said softly.
The entire room turned to look at Clara.
The crying stopped instantly.
Clara wiped the tears from her face with the back of her sleeve. The terrified, desperate expression she had worn when she crashed the wedding vanished. She stood up straight, unbuttoning the bulky jacket she wore.
She wasn't pregnant.
She reached under her dress and pulled out a foam prosthetic bump, dropping it onto the floor like a piece of garbage.
Victoria stared in utter horror. "You... you were in on it?"

Clara pulled a encrypted satellite phone from her purse, flipped it open, and smiled coldly at Victoria. "The baby was fake, sweetie. But the forty million dollars currently sitting in my offshore account? That’s very real. Thanks for paying for our retirement, Victoria."
Cliffhanger: The ultimate betrayal was revealed—the "victim" was the actual thief, and the money was already gone!
