CHAPTER 1 — "Congratulations... But That's Not Your Child."

The room froze.

Dr. Vance slowly removed his gloves before speaking again.

"I'm afraid there has been a misunderstanding."

Marcus laughed nervously.

"What misunderstanding? Just tell us how healthy my son is."

The doctor looked directly at Penelope.

"The baby is healthy."

Everyone sighed with relief.

Then he continued.

"But according to today's ultrasound measurements, the fetal age is almost six weeks older than the date you both gave us."

Marcus frowned.

"What does that mean?"

"It means conception happened before the date you claimed you began your relationship."

Silence.

The doctor's next sentence hit like a bomb.

"Biologically... Mr. Henderson cannot be the father."

Penelope's face turned white.

Roxanne blinked repeatedly.

Their mother grabbed the armrest so tightly her knuckles turned pale.

Marcus stared at the monitor as if reality itself had betrayed him.

"What... did you just say?"

"I'm saying the pregnancy timeline doesn't match."

Penelope suddenly burst into tears.

"No... the dates must be wrong!"

Dr. Vance calmly shook his head.

"We've confirmed it twice."

Marcus slowly turned toward Penelope.

"You told me you found out after we got together."

"I... I..."

"You swore that baby was mine!"

She couldn't answer.

Instead, another voice came from behind the door.

"I think I should explain."

Every head turned.

A tall man wearing an expensive navy suit stepped inside.

His face was unfamiliar to everyone...

Except Penelope.

She gasped.

"Ethan..."

Marcus frowned.

"Who are you?"

The stranger calmly smiled.

"The man she's been trying very hard to forget."

And the entire Henderson family realized their celebration had just become the beginning of their worst nightmare.

Meanwhile...

Thirty-eight thousand feet above the Atlantic...

I watched my two children sleeping peacefully beside me.

For the first time in years...

No one was yelling.

No one was blaming me.

No one was telling my daughter she wasn't good enough because she wasn't born a boy.

The flight attendant approached with a gentle smile.

"Mrs. Julianne Whitmore?"

I smiled softly.

"It's Miss Whitmore again."

She nodded respectfully.

"Your grandfather asked me to inform you that the board members have already arrived."

Outside the airplane window...

A completely different life was waiting.

And Marcus still had no idea...

May you like

The woman he called worthless...

Had never actually been poor.
