CHAPTER 5 — The Final Meeting That Ended Everything

Six months later...

Marcus stood outside Whitmore Headquarters wearing a wrinkled suit.

No luxury car.

No assistants.

No family beside him.

Only regret.

He begged for five minutes.

I agreed.

He stared at our children playing happily in the garden.

"I thought money would make me happier."

"It didn't."

"I thought having a son would complete my life."

"I lost both my children instead."

He placed an old photo on the table.

"I'm sorry."

For a long moment, I said nothing.

Then I slid a small folder toward him.

Inside were college trust documents, healthcare plans, and visitation conditions.

"You can still be their father."

"But only if you learn what being a parent actually means."

Tears filled his eyes.

"I don't deserve this."

"No."

"You don't."

"But they deserve every chance to know that people can change."

Marcus broke down crying for the first time.

Not because he lost his money.

Not because Penelope betrayed him.

Not because the Henderson family had fallen apart.

He cried because he finally understood the truth too late.

The greatest fortune he had ever possessed...

Was never the son he dreamed about.

It was the loyal wife and two beautiful children he had thrown away chasing an illusion.

And by the time he realized it...

They were already living a life where they no longer needed him.
