Chapter 6 - Sirens at the GatesBefore Diego could even be dragged out of the double doors, the distinct, wailing sound of police sirens echoed up from the street below, cutting through the morning traffic of San Pedro Garza García.

Through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, the directors watched as three sleek federal police cruisers pulled up directly in front of the Villarreal Tower. Armed officers in tactical gear stepped out, quickly securing the perimeter.

Ofelia stood up, trembling with a mix of fury and genuine panic. Her royal demeanor had completely shattered.

“Alejandro... your own mother!” she hissed, pointing a shaking finger at him. “You’re going to put your own mother in handcuffs over some money? After everything I sacrificed for you? Have you no soul?”

Alejandro looked at her, his expression cold, unyielding, and haunted by the memory of Mariana kneeling on a cold marble floor with her swollen ankles and bruised lip.

“My soul was clean, Mother,” Alejandro said, his voice dangerously low. “Until you decided to use your old age as a weapon to abuse the woman who saved my life when we had nothing. You thought Mariana was weak because she was quiet. You thought she had no one to protect her because she came from nothing.”

He walked slowly toward her, stopping just inches away.

“You didn't just steal money from a company, Mother. You tried to steal my family. And for that, there is no forgiveness.”

The heavy glass doors of the boardroom swung open once more.

Two federal agents walked in, accompanied by Mateo Garza. They didn't look at Ofelia with respect; they looked at her like common criminals.

“Ofelia Villarreal and Diego Villarreal?” the lead agent asked, holding up an official arrest warrant. “You are under arrest for grand larceny, corporate embezzlement, identity fraud, and extortion. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”

“Get your hands off me!” Ofelia shrieked as an officer gripped her arm, guiding her toward the exit. “Alejandro! You’ll regret this! You’ll burn in hell for this!”

Her screams echoed down the hallway, fading away as the elevator doors closed, taking mother and son down to the basement holding cells.

Silence fell over the boardroom once again. The other directors sat frozen, unsure of how to react to the unprecedented family tragedy that had just unfolded before their eyes.

Alejandro buttoned his suit jacket, picked up his briefcase, and looked at Don Fernando.

“The meeting is adjourned,” Alejandro said firmly. “I have a wife and an unborn child waiting for me at home.”
