CHAPTER 9 — The Throne Was Never Meant for Luca… It Was Always Vincent

The city remained in total darkness.
Only Torino Manor glowed like a lonely castle in the middle of a dead kingdom.
From the underground command center, Vincent stared at the illuminated mansion.
"It was never a funeral," he said quietly.
Emma looked at him.
"It was an invitation."
Adrian slowly nodded.
"No..."
"It was a coronation."
Silence filled the room.
Marco finally broke it.
"So what do we do?"
Vincent reached for his pistol, then slowly put it back on the table.
"Not this time."
Everyone looked at him in confusion.
"For forty years," Vincent said, "every problem I solved ended with someone dying."
He looked toward Emma.
"You saved my life because you chose the truth over fear."
Then toward Adrian.
"You searched for your son instead of seeking revenge."
Finally, he looked at Sophia.
"You risked everything to expose them."
He took a deep breath.
"This war ends differently."
An hour later...
Vincent walked alone through the front gates of Torino Manor.
No bodyguards.
No weapons.
No armored vehicles.
The mansion doors opened before he even touched them.
Inside...
Every member of the underworld was waiting.
Crime bosses.
Corrupt judges.
Politicians.
International arms dealers.
Even Luca stood silently beside The Chairman.
No one seemed surprised to see Vincent alive.
The Chairman smiled.
"I knew you'd come."
Vincent walked to the center of the grand hall.
"You wanted me here."
"I've always wanted you here."
The Chairman slowly climbed onto the raised platform where Salvatore Torino had once addressed the family.
He opened a velvet box.
Inside rested a heavy silver ring engraved with a chess king.
"The world doesn't need another gangster."
"It needs a ruler."
He held out the ring.
"Take it."
"The empire is yours."
The entire hall waited.
Luca smiled confidently.
He believed Vincent would accept.
Power.
Unlimited wealth.
Control over governments.
Everything he had unknowingly been raised to inherit.
Vincent picked up the ring.
Everyone held their breath.
Then...
He looked at the hundreds of faces surrounding him.
People who had built fortunes from fear.
People who had destroyed countless innocent lives.
People who believed power lasted forever.
Vincent smiled.
Then dropped the ring.
It struck the marble floor with a sharp metallic crack.
The hall fell silent.
"I refuse."
For the first time in fifty years...
The Chairman lost his smile.
"You... refuse?"
Vincent nodded.
"I spent forty-two years living someone else's life."
"I'm done following someone else's plan."
The Chairman's eyes grew cold.
"You think you have a choice?"
Vincent reached into his jacket.
Instead of a gun...
He pulled out Emma's flash drive.
"You made one mistake."
"You underestimated the maid."
Emma stepped through the front door.
Behind her came Sophia.
Marco.
Adrian.
And dozens of armed officers wearing tactical uniforms.
Not corrupt officers.
Federal agents.
Behind them rolled television cameras broadcasting live around the world.
Every confession...
Every document...
Every hidden recording from Sophia's camera...
Had already been transmitted.
The giant screens inside the mansion suddenly came alive.
The Chairman watched in horror as his own voice echoed through the hall.
"I created wars."
"I created monsters."
"I created Vincent."
Crime bosses looked around in panic.
Some reached for their guns.
Others tried to flee.
Outside...
Hundreds of police vehicles surrounded the estate.
Helicopters thundered overhead.
Searchlights flooded the mansion.
The Chairman whispered,
"You..."
Vincent calmly replied,
"No."
"You defeated yourself."
Luca suddenly pulled out a pistol.
"If I can't have the empire..."
"...no one will."
He aimed directly at Vincent.
Before anyone could react—
Emma stepped in front of Vincent.
BANG!
The shot echoed through the hall.
Emma collapsed.
"Emma!"
Vincent caught her before she hit the floor.
Blood spread across her shoulder.
She smiled weakly.
"I told you once..."
"...don't make a sound."
Tears filled Vincent's eyes.
For the first time since childhood...
The feared mafia boss cried.
Meanwhile, Marco tackled Luca to the ground.
The Chairman quietly attempted to walk away.
Adrian intercepted him.
Their eyes met after forty-two years.
"You stole my son."
The Chairman lowered his head.
"I know."
"You destroyed thousands of lives."
"I know."
"You deserve prison."
The Chairman looked around at the collapsing empire.
Police stormed the mansion.
Crime bosses surrendered one after another.
He smiled sadly.
"I deserve worse."
Before anyone noticed...
He slipped a small capsule into his mouth.
Seconds later...
The man who had secretly ruled the underworld for half a century collapsed onto the marble floor.
Dead before the paramedics reached him.
His final secret died with him.
May you like
Or so everyone believed.
