CHAPTER 1 – The Maid Who Should Have Stayed Invisible

Everyone feared Vincent Moretti.
To the police, he was an untouchable businessman.
To politicians, he was the man whose phone calls decided elections.
To rival gangs, he was simply known as The King—the mafia boss who never forgave betrayal.
For twenty-seven years, nobody had ever managed to surprise him.
Until one rainy Tuesday night...
...
Vincent wasn't supposed to be home.
His private jet had been delayed in Chicago, and every member of his household believed he would return after midnight.
Instead...
At exactly 8:17 PM, his armored black SUV rolled through the mansion gates.
The security guards froze.
"Boss?"
"You... you're early."
Vincent narrowed his cold gray eyes.
"Is there a problem?"
"No... sir."
Something felt wrong.
The guards avoided eye contact.
One reached for his radio...
...then stopped.
Vincent noticed.
His instincts had kept him alive longer than bullets ever could.
Something inside the mansion had changed.
Without another word, he dismissed his driver and entered alone.
Silence.
Too much silence.
Normally the mansion buzzed with activity—maids cleaning, chefs cooking, bodyguards rotating shifts.
Tonight...
Nothing.
Only the ticking of an antique grandfather clock echoed through the marble hallway.
He slowly removed the pistol from inside his tailored jacket.
Click.
Safety off.
Every step echoed through the empty corridors.
Then...
A whisper.
"Don't move."
Vincent spun around instantly, aiming his gun toward the sound.
Standing behind the pantry door...
...was Elena.
The maid.
Twenty-four years old.
Quiet.
Invisible.
The woman nobody in the mansion ever remembered existed.
She raised both trembling hands.
"Please..."
"If you walk into your office..."
"...you'll die."
Vincent's finger tightened around the trigger.
Nobody threatened him.
Ever.
"You have three seconds."
She swallowed.
"They planted explosives under your desk."
Silence.
Vincent stared at her.
Then laughed.
A slow...
Cold...
Terrifying laugh.
"You expect me to believe the cleaning girl knows something my security team doesn't?"
She nodded.
"They're all involved."
That sentence erased the smile from his face.
Impossible.
His security chief had served him for fifteen years.
His butler had practically raised him.
His personal driver had taken bullets for him.
Every one of them loyal.
Or so he believed.
Vincent stepped closer.
Close enough that Elena could feel the barrel of his pistol pressing gently beneath her chin.
"If you're lying..."
"...I'll bury you myself."
She whispered...
"I'm trying to stop you from walking into your own execution."
For the first time in years...
Vincent hesitated.
Not because he trusted her.
Because she wasn't afraid.
Everyone feared him.
Everyone except...
The maid.
He quietly handed her his phone.
"Show me."
Elena opened the mansion's maintenance app.
Then zoomed into blueprints nobody should have had access to.
She pointed beneath the office floor.
"There."
"Pressure sensor."
"The moment your weight reaches the center of the room..."
"...everything explodes."
Vincent frowned.
"How do you know this?"
Instead of answering...
She slowly pulled a tiny wireless camera from inside her apron.
"I recorded them."
His heartbeat stopped.
Recorded...
Who?
She pressed play.
The screen showed four familiar faces.
His security chief.
His lawyer.
His cousin.
And...
His younger brother.
Installing explosives beneath his office.
Vincent felt something he hadn't experienced in twenty years.
Shock.
Real shock.
Before he could ask another question—
BOOM!!
The entire east wing exploded into flames.
Glass shattered across the mansion.
The office vanished in a fireball so powerful it blew every window outward.
Heat slammed into them.
Vincent instinctively shielded Elena as burning debris rained across the hallway.
The mansion was under attack.
But the attack...
Had been meant for him.
As alarms screamed through the estate...
Elena whispered one sentence that made Vincent's blood run cold.
"This wasn't Plan A."
May you like
"It's Plan B."
"They expected you to survive."
