CHAPTER 3 – The Blood Ledger

The mansion burned behind them as Vincent Moretti and Elena disappeared through an underground tunnel built decades earlier for emergency escapes.

Smoke filled the narrow passage.

Every explosion above shook dust from the ceiling.

Vincent had escaped assassins before.

He had survived wars between cartels.

He had buried rivals who underestimated him.

But never...

Had he lost everything in a single night.

His empire.

His fortune.

His men.

His trust.

All stolen by the one man he had called brother.

He finally stopped walking.

His voice was barely a whisper.

"If Marco raised you..."

"...why save me?"

Elena looked at the floor.

"I didn't come to save you."

"I came to save innocent people."

Vincent frowned.

"Innocent?"

She nodded.

"You built an empire believing you only destroyed criminals."

"You were wrong."

Those words hit harder than any bullet.

Elena opened another encrypted folder.

Inside were hundreds of files.

Names.

Photos.

Medical reports.

Children.

Families.

Entire villages.

"This..."

"...is the Blood Ledger."

Vincent stared silently.

Marco had secretly documented every illegal operation for over twenty-five years.

Drug shipments disguised as humanitarian aid.

Hospitals used to launder organs.

Judges blackmailed into sentencing innocent witnesses.

Entire neighborhoods burned so luxury developments could replace them.

Each document carried Vincent's digital signature.

He slammed the tablet shut.

"I never approved this."

"You did."

Elena's answer was calm.

"You just never knew what you were signing."

Every monthly report...

Every financial statement...

Every coded contract...

Marco had rewritten them before placing them on Vincent's desk.

For twenty-six years...

The king had ruled blind.

Vincent collapsed into a chair inside the abandoned tunnel station.

His hands trembled.

"I became the monster everyone feared..."

"...without realizing someone else was holding the knife."

Before Elena could answer—

A weak voice echoed from the darkness.

"Boss..."

One injured bodyguard staggered into the light.

Covered in blood.

It was Luca.

The only man Vincent had trusted since childhood.

He dropped to one knee.

"We found the traitor."

Vincent's eyes narrowed.

"Marco?"

Luca slowly shook his head.

"No..."

"The traitor above Marco."

Silence.

Vincent stared.

"What did you say?"

Luca coughed blood.

"This empire..."

"...was never Marco's."

"He answered to someone else."

Before Vincent could ask another question—

A sniper's bullet pierced Luca's chest.

The loyal bodyguard died instantly.

The tunnel lights went dark.

Someone had followed them.

And from the darkness came the slow sound of applause.

Clap...

Clap...

Clap...

A familiar female voice echoed through the tunnel.

May you like

"Congratulations, Vincent."

"You finally started asking the right questions."
